/ loisdavidsonart This painting is inspired by the late, great Ron Ranson. It depicts a bend in the river and winter trees. It is also a 'viewer request video' as a few people asked me to show how I paint reflections.
Please like and subscribe, and if you want to see more like this, follow the link above to my Patreon group above where for $4 a month you can access lots of exclusive tutorials, tips and tricks :-)
It is painted using Cotman tube watercolour paints: raw sienna, paynes grey, ultramarine, burnt umber and light red using hake and rigger brushes :-) I used Millford 140lb cold pressed paper 15" x 11"

Edo Hannema Watercolour Art Edo you have made my day! The hake is indeed a wonderful brush, but I long for a very large squirrel mop, one day I will be able to afford one 🤔😉🤞💐

What size large squirrel brush and why would you recommend it over the hake brush?

Another inspiration, another reminder of the importance of a limited palette, bold strong colours because they fade, and a light touch. Sigh! One day I'll learn. Thanks once again Lois. You're SO talented.

I have to say that I've never been a fan of this style of watercolour, but I'm very quickly changing my mind watching your tutorials Lois. I especially like the relections in this - so simple but the effect is wonderful. I also like the river in the foreground which you lightened up. Really lovely work

When you said you were going use Payne's grey for the water my ears perked up. Didn't know that could work for water. Its beautiful! Also love watching how you worked to bring the river to recede and follow the horizon.

I have been watercolor painting for just about 2 years - new to the whole painting thing. I saw some of your tutorials and decided to add some hake brushes to my stash. Good thing this was a beginners painting. A whole learning curve on using hake brushes and figuring out how much paint to water etc. I think i figured out how you did the trees with the brown stripe amongst the gray. Fun to try it all out. My version is adequate but I learned a lot. thank you.

Very lovely painting, Lois! I've noticed in your paintings some very faint pencil lines. It would be helpful, in future paintings, if you could make your pencils lines darker so that we could use them as a guide while you're painting. Yes, Ron Ranson would be proud!

I will join your patreon account beginning October 1st. In the meantime, I want to get my materials ready. I purchased a small size Ron Ranson hake, should I buy a medium as well? I don’t foresee panting anything bigger than 10x16” till I have a clear understanding of how it all works in practice. I also own a 9X12” block which probably I will use to get started. I have smaller brushes but none of them are authentic kolinsky sable brushes, but imitations from an American company, Princeton. I do have some credit cards or hotel keys that I can use to create textures. Wonderful picture you have painted without fiddling at all. Thanks

Hi! I just started to paint watercolors and I love to watch your tutorials! You have a lovely voice that I enjoy listening to! I am from sweden so English is my second language and therfor I sometimes dont understand or "hear" some of the words. It is the name of a brush I cant hear. I think you say something like wriggely brush or something😂🙈. The thin brush. Hope you see this even if its been a year or so since you posted this! Thank you for a great tutorial! My namne is Anna, by the way.
@deborahlucas4176
@deborahlucas4176 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Anna, I think the thin brush is a “rigger” brush. I believe these brushes were so called because they were perfect for painting the rigging ( or ropes, sails and fine lines )on old ship scenes. Hope that helps!
