Thanks for making these basic videos. As others have pointed out, they are not for the pros but this bite-sized approach is useful for a beginner like me. Affinity (am on Mac version) is no doubt powerful but I struggle with it sometimes because operations and buttons are not obvious to me, for example, in your video, “create pixel layer” is a task fulfilled by that button below the layers panel. Many tutorials rush through these bits and bobs and it is precisely these things that trip me up.

Hey, thank you for the detailed video, it’s really helpful. I’m struggling to achieve the same as you did at 4:31 …when I run my brush over the watercolour paper like you did I don’t see my background photo - only the pixels layer with grey and white squares. Any idea what I could be doing wrong? I’ve copied your layers and layer positions and cannot for the life of me work it out. Any help would be appreciated.

Cool. Why do my brushes draw weird squares and or random patterns though? It really is anoying. Happens in paint brush, cloning and even erasing

ok thats weird.. youre soft brush is in the middle black, then goes into very very soft.. mine is grey into black and not so soft (I use the same medium brush like you did) its like, i have to much color on my brush o.O and i need to 2x brushing for the opacity.. I reinstalled Affinity to but its the default..?! idk what to do

It's a setting near the top of the screen to turn your brush "wet".

On windows, you can also change the brush size by pressing Ctrl Alt click and moving the mouse (to the right to increase, left to decrease)

Can also add a way to completely deselect a brush so the paint brush tool can be used for masking. Useful tutorial nevertheless.
