I'm sure the lines show up more in person that what I can see in this video. VERY impressive work you've done here. one question, how do you make such tiny strips of tape?
@bumbledouche33238 жыл бұрын
Can't speak for the poster, but I use a metal ruler & a scalpel over graph paper (helps keep the widths consistent)... The result is the same, thin strips of tape.
@stephentroyer38318 жыл бұрын
Help me understand the process. Is the ruler what the tape sticks to as you cut the strips?
@bumbledouche33238 жыл бұрын
Stephen Troyer Stick the tape down onto something flat, but don't press it down so that you have to peel & tear to get it off. You need to select an appropriate tape for this to work so that it doesn't lose its stickiness. Use the metal ruler to guide the scalpel blade as you cut the tape into strips. It gives crisp, clean strips of any thickness you desire.

And this is how you keep people whatching the whole video by making them wait for the magic moment when you reveal all that actual paint you promissed in the title. Please understand that my critique is not directed towards your work or the model, which are both amazing. It is just a shame that you used such a misleading title and description.
@olotocolo9 жыл бұрын
+Christian Lang (MasterTRL) I have problem with more than a title. Seriously, the model is superb, why not paint it? Or at least the parts that are "different". What is the point of those "shiny" spots, they are barely visible even in darkness with light on big angle. I'm sure there is reason the actual paint can't be used but there has to be SOMETHING.
@MasterTRL9 жыл бұрын
Naxster I disagree with you there. Of course the guy can totally decide how to paint or not paint his own creation. It's not like he has to follow any rules if he does this just for himself. He let's us take part in what he himself loves and I appreciate that. Only the fact that I,because of the misleading description, actually expected some colour bothers me.
@olotocolo9 жыл бұрын
Christian Lang I'm not saying he CAN'T do that. I'm saying "dude, why?" Maybe there is actually good reason, I just can't see it and I weep over unused opportunity.

I understand your reasons for the faint liveries, but I just don't get it. To build something so grand but can't tell it's painted?? Oh, you can? But only if the light points that way. In the dark. Don't get me wrong, over the last hour I've discovered all the pics and vids of this model and it is absolutely awesome. But if I'm to be an honest critic, I think you let your project down with the livery idea. But, its just one man's opinion. Let the masses speak!

I don't blame you for thinking that. It was a lot of work for almost nothing. I still am convinced I would have ruined it if I'd tried to paint it in full color. Trust me, I would have loved to, but I also like seeing the manila folder look.

***** I was thinking if you were to make another, it would be a lot less work because you've already solved all the problems. I'm sure you saved the CAD drawings. On the next one, maybe paint one side of it, or half of it in a "half colored in" type of thing. Maybe a different material for the next one... Anyhow, it was so good to see the entire project. This article here www.viralnova.com/manila-folder-model/ was shared by someone through Facebook and I went from there. I hope you get a lot more interest in it in the future and it turns out to be more than worth your while!

Perhaps its much easier to notice in real life? We all know how hard it is to capture real life detail on video or in pictures.

It is those slight additions that make it look more complete. I do professional photography and sometimes just moving something in a scene a small bit or in the post-production you change the white balance a notch, may seem futile. But the tiny bits here and there, build up to perfection.
