Paint SMOOTH watercolor pencil backgrounds EVERY TIME!

No more pencil lines! In this video, I show you two major techniques that will get any watercolor pencil brand look super smooth. We end the video with a landscape painting demo of a sky and mountains, using the qualitative Faber Castell Albrecht Dürer watercolor pencils on one side, and the cheap BIC Kids watercolor pencils on the other.

As a watercolour artist I always admire people able to produce beautiful art with only watercolour pencils. Water soluble media just aren’t for me, lol. It’s either watercolour or dry pencils. I always end up adding coloured pencils on top of my sad attempts with watercolour pencils. Your videos are truly inspirational, and maybe some day I’ll be able to master those watercolour pencils in another way than just for preliminary sketches to be covered in genuine watercolour.

I think it's possible it changes for you. I'm a perfectionist starting with dry mediums and this was very hard at first.

I don't use top of the line supplies and my art is better than most people who does. Don't be descourage if you don't have cotton paper or artist grade pencils.

You're right! For watercolor, I still find from my own experiments paper in particular makes a big difference but the rest seems less important for sure.

@@paintingandchocolate 4 years ago I bought Arches paper and Daniel Smith watercolors. I thought I am doing something good for my art. Oh man, I was so wrong. Now I am using cheap paper and less expensive paints and realizing how much more I need to learn.😅

@@moonlightgator541 Same. I tried cotton paper and expensive paint and hated it. I think I am just used to the way cheaper art supplies behave (even though I don't use super cheap or children's supplies, but rather students/hobby grade stuff) and how to get the results I want.

@@moonlightgator541 can you add a link to your Art with examples showing the difference between art done with cheap materials and high end supplies? I’ve been working with both for years, but I often get frustrated at how badly art done with cheap supplies ages. The paper yellows, the colours fade, and I always end up regretting putting much work into drawings that degrade with time. The biggest regret I have is filling a really fat sketchbook with elaborate drawings and seeing them deteriorate.

Love the tutorial and delivery as always, but very misleading and dishonest photoshopped thumbnail. I mean, the end result of what you did on the tutorial was excellent anyway, so I wished you had used that as your thumbnail instead of a photoshopped image which has the tendency of making people expect that such super smooth blending would be the result. The deception was well-meaning, I assume, but it was misleading and clickbaity all the same. An honest approach is always better imo.

Hi, before/after or comparisons, so the result stays a surprise and the story can unfold, are quite common in art on KZbin, nothing negative or misleading in my opinion (I find them more intriguing myself, you are more curious to know how it turned out) but I'm sorry to hear it made you feel this way. I'm happy however you enjoyed the tutorial, thank you for letting me know!
