Great video. I watched it a couple of weeks ago and went out and bought a tin of the Quickshade dark tone off the back of it. I used it to dip the cannons, limbers and one set of gun crew from the Victrix British Artillery set (28mm), it's been sitting around for ages. I used the brush on and brush off again dipping technique you are using in the video, very handy. The cannons and limbers look very good and so do the dipped crew. I'm going to gloss varnish one or maybe both of the other crew sets and then oil wash them to see how they compare to the dipped crew. Only small prob I had was with some dip creating a solid film between the buckets and the rope handles, I cut this film off with a craft knife and the remaining dip 'healed' itself. All that other palaver I had seen with trying to shake the dip off, using a drill...etc had put me off using it before. So, cheers mate.

Thanks for the painting tutorial. We really need more of these for us beginners so much appreciated. By the way, did I miss which miniature manufacturer you used? I would very much appreciate anything on your review or opinion on best miniature brands which are good for painting newcomers.
@RingoSimpkinsUK5 ай бұрын
@@user-mc4sq3fk5d The manufacturer of this mini is Front Rank, these are very good to paint as they have good well defined details and are not over fussy like some. They are wargaming figures and are not trying to be historical figurines like certain other brands I could mention. My other go to brand are Calpe, however these are a bit pricy but worth it. Front Rank make a good variety of nations, I use Calpe for their Prussians. HTH

Mark Griffiths Cheers, I am not the worlds best to be honest but they look ok from 3 feet away, thats the thing to keep in mind if truth be told. You want to go look at Liberator240 , blucher1815red , Paul Alba, vonketteringham, MrSuperchippy74 , pancakepayney payne, Paul 1970 , Justin Borges , Robert Chisholm to name but a few to get some great napoleonic / historic references from

I like the way you paint mate. I have a query about the varnish at the end of the process. What can I buy from a hardware store that would take the shine off the figures please ? And, I didnt see anything on the label of that varnish (Vallejo) that indicated it was matt. Ot, does adding the water make it matt ? Great video thanks once again.
@RingoSimpkinsUK4 жыл бұрын
I use a matt varnish over the top, the dip is a polyurethane gloss - so don’t add water!! Vallejo make a good matt varnish and its not expensive, whether you can get it at a hardware store i don’t know, more art store craft store or online

+IRISH JEDI I am pleased you found it useful. All I used, after super gluing the actual figure bases to coins (in this case they were UK 2p pieces as they are for a skirmish game - Sound of Drums and Shakos), was a lump of blue tac to fix the coing to the lid.

Can you pain over enamel paint with ordinary mat paint the revarnish ?
@RingoSimpkinsUK5 жыл бұрын
If the miniatures are all metal then i would strip the enamel off in preference to painting over it, BUT if there is ANY plastic or resin then the only choice you have is to paint over it. I would make sure to wash them in warm soapy water with a toothbrush to get rid of any grease or dirt, when they are properly dry, I would use a light coat of matt varnish to give a base for the new paint to adhere to. I hope this is helpful

Very good but why paint the flesh a yellow? Quite a few people do so just wondered why.
@RingoSimpkinsUK9 жыл бұрын
Marksman Gaming LOL, I have no idea, I am colour blind, so I have to trust the colour in the pot is what comes out, it's Flesh on the pot! If you say there are a lot of people who paint flesh yellow, then you may want to recalibrate the colours on your monitor, it may just be lighting or the fact that the facings are yellow and it's causing a relection or cast on the flesh, no idea.

Great Tutorial, Can I ask what is the "Dip" you're using?
@RingoSimpkinsUK9 жыл бұрын
+Andy W Cheers. I am using The Army Painter Quickshade, Dark Tone. I thin it down with white spirit. If you are going to use it and thin it down, I recommend taking a small bit out and experimenting first to get your mix right - use it on a few figures you are not really fussed about. I don't actually dip them, I paint on the shade with a brush and work it as if I were doing a shading wash with inks. When the varnish dries I do a few highlights and then use a matt varnish to get rid of the gloss finish. It took me a few attempots to get it to look like I wanted it to, but has saved me so much time when painting large units and they do end up look fine for gaming purposes and are well protected by the varnish coat. HTH

+Andy W I wish you well. Make sure you use the quickshade in a well ventilated space, it does smell rather strongly and it will give you a headache if you have no air flow. You can dip and shake the figures too - that is how it is intended to be used, obviously do this outside and make sure the figure is well "gripped" before shaking .. when I tried this for the first time a few of my wee men dissapeared over the wall in to next doors garden never to be seen again LOL. More info on the shade is here shop.thearmypainter.com/products.php?ProductGroupId=1

Hello Ringo what paint do you use painting napoleon figures made a mess of them can you give me some advice
@RingoSimpkinsUK8 жыл бұрын
I use a mix of paints, whites I stick with Vallejo, I use Ivory with a highligh of white, for my brits I use Citadel Mephiston Red with Coat d'arms blood red, my prussians I use the Foundary Prussian Blue and prussian Blue Light. Leather I use Vallejo English Uniform, wooden bits I use Vallejo Weathered Wood, Blacks I use The Army Painter Matt Black with a highlight of Vallejo Black Grey, metallics I use The Army Painter Weapon Bronze and plate mail, yellows, I use Citadel Averland Sunset with Citadel Flash Gitz Yellow. As I use Quickshade I tend to paint everything a lot brighter than is necessary as the shade dasrkens the whole paint job. Hope this helps
