Paint With Me! 🎨 Granulating Watercolours In My Stillman & Birn Sketchbook

In this video I'll be using Daniel Smith watercolours to paint a little bird and bird feeder in my Stillman & Birn Beta Series sketchbook! I'm using mostly granulating colours from my Jean Haines Watercolour set and I'll show you how the colours separate and look awesome on this paper! I love birds myself so this was a pleasure to see. I also self sabotage myself, I over think things that I believe are more difficult than they truly are, by doing so I miss out on what can potentially be a great experience.

I’m now wondering whether I might have made better use of my bigger portable painter by putting gouache in it instead of watercolour! 😅 enjoying gouache much more these days! Thanks for watching as always 😘😘

Oh yes, this is me, this sentiment about being too scared to start and therefore not doing anything. It's very strange because once I start, I'm having a good time.

Yes I have watched till the very end & yes I can totally relate with you when it comes to procrastination when it come to the fear of trying a new form of art it can take me months of self pep talks before I pick up a brush and give it a go , I do feel the need also to have a free day before I’d go near my are or at least half a day spare as I hate being rushed . It blocks my creative flow 🫤😌 I suffer PTSD since I sustained a traumatic work place bullying injury leaving me completely disabled & unemployable so now I’m medically retired & I had to re teach myself to right & draw so as to be able to do art for my art therapy sessions . Since 2028 March . But I can only do are in 15 minutes increments as I suffer to much pain if I try to push against the pain barrier to get as much done as I can manage . I struggle at any kind of repetitive task as the repetition reaks havoc on my Shoulders biceps , shoulder blades & neck 😢 so I have forced coffee ☕️ breaks within my art therapy . On the up of this senerio it does give one a chance to sit back with a cuppa in hand & ponder over what I have achieved so far & take notes of any touch ups or additional add ons 😉🎨🙂

I am so sorry to hear about your injury. That must be very hard to live with now. But I hope your art therapy helps! Even if you can only create for short amount of times. I should imagine the little breaks in between help you to see things more clearly and take notes, like you said! I should definitely step back from my art more often! 😄

I have those same pens, but most of them dried out on me! I keep them on their side with cap on, any tips on how to revive them, has that happened to you with the microns?

That’s very interesting! I’ve not had that happen. The only time a micron has dried on me is when I’ve either used it all up or tried to use them on top of gouache or Neocolor. The tips get clogged easily but I just dip the very end in my water cup and then scribble on some scrap paper to revive!
