M. Graham is no less “toxic” then any of the others. They just use walnut oil. Believe it or not you can consume linseed oil as we eat the very plant seeds from which it comes.

Great recommendations! I always tell people per my agent: never sell below what you are possibly worth on the market, however the market is a schizophrenic buyer. Some have to sell to eat, so that kind of forces sales.

A review of Geneva oil paints would be interesting, I would watch it. However this fixation with brands everyone seems to have is IMO just that, a fixation. I think it is more important to use the tools appropriate to your level. I remember, far to many years ago I had this inexpensive guitar and when I played it I sounded …not that great. I was visiting with some professional musicians one day and one of them used my guitar and it sounded fantastic. I also played with a few guitars that costs thousands and yep, I still sounded like crap. I think paint is the same way, why buy expensive paint if you really aren't capable of maximizing its capabilities.

Best to have a piece of paper you can hand out with your prices. Starting out $2 per sq inch plus some expenses. If you frame more, if you use an expensive canvas more. Extra time more. I spent a month on one painting. It’s hanging in a large corporation board room. What would you charge for a month of your time. ? I under priced it at $5000.

Thank you for your excellent teach outs, love your art and insights. I have just started oil painting and find the cost a bit much so I have been using thin plywood to paint on which I gesso. However, I can't afford to gesso the really big sizes (4ft by 4ft or 4ft by 2ft) so I have been using a left over can of acrylic high grade regular house paint!! Will the paintings last? Thank you.

do you have a video about how different colors of oil paint dry at different rates... some slower than others? It seems when I use Sap green or Alizarin.. it takes forever to dry.. any help will be appreciated

The real issue of beginners is that beginners need to spend tens of hours to paint a small portrait. $200 can be super underpriced and I’d much prefer working at a restaurant which is higher paid than that 😭 As the speed improves I’d feel comfortable for pricing lower when I’m no longer a beginner. I guess that’s the reason beginners charging like $800, it’s a huge conflict. Also commissions can be torture when it’s not exciting to do yet time consuming. What’s appropriate pricing for commissions I wonder?

No- your channel is great giving great advice on a shallow but accurate level of experiences... giving a "review" would slow you down... and be a bit weird, maybe you could talk about the differences of how paint is made, and how it might change your decisions making when using it?

You say you always finish a painting and be done with it...so you never pull out an old old painting and work on it ..for whatever reason? If you did happen to, that would be a great video idea.

@@amysbees6686 Frankly, I think this is a personal question that will differ for all folks. I have always heard..."Don't go back and work on old paintings". And yet, I have seen some things in my old paintings that I can (now) drastically improve, and... I would ENJOY doing that improvement. That's the key. Would you enjoy working on it some more? The bottom line should be, to progress on to new things in your career but don't forget the reason you're doing most things... to enjoy your life.

@@paintcoach Thanks, I think college education is never a waste, you gained life skills that may help you in your present career (to make videos, relate to clients) and at least to be a better citizen. I also went to Uni, worked in my profession for two years and decided to do something else, however that degree opened the doors for other activities. Nowadays, I am trying to reinvent myself as a portrait painter. Thanks and keep making good videos. Stay safe ✌😷.
