Vivienne Westwood was a force of nature, an eco warrior and a cultural iconoclast. Her genius was to take inspiration from the past. She will be sorely missed. I wish I'd met her. I'd have loved to have spoken to her: Thank you so much for your wonderful work and life, Vivienne, you are a hero.

I love the fact that she had such a broad vision and wasn't restricted and boxed-in by rules governing her creativity. It was the same, in her era of youth, for music - imagination, and the artistic world in general. The classical and very broad education that earlier generations enjoyed, were the impetus to creative thinking and discovery. Concerning this video at the start - the garments of the Mme Recamier era were also those of Josephine de Beauharnais - Napoleon's Josephine - in the post-revolution style - there is a term for that era and it's style but I can't remember it for sure. Directoire perhaps? I only wrote this after watching those scenes and have yet to watch the rest of it. Today's era asks more of the artist and anyone with a creative bent - you have to be prepared to research it all and learn as you grow - the restricted climate of everyone obliged to think alike has had its own constraining influence on culture - individuality and the sense of adventure that so rewarded us in past decades.

Is it possible that the way you see the male form of the 18th century … quite literally possibly … had some to do with the theatrics of ballet at this time
