My daughter did work experience at Vivienne Westwood Battersea. At the end of her eight weeks there she was told that Vivienne had said she could chose any three items in the warehouse. Some things were so expensive, like two grand!! My daughter chose three moderate items and was given some perfume and a scarf extra to that. My daughter had worked with Vivienne, just the two of them, several times. She is a wonderful down to earth talented icon. An amazing part of our fashion history.

When I baught my first designer bag it just so happens to be a small black vivvian Westwood handbag. I was so excited with my bag I showed it off to my grandma who shocked me by calmly stating that she had gone to school with vivvian in Glossop. I was in shock for the rest of the day.

Its amazing I first heard of Vivienne Westwood through the anime/manga NANA. Vivienne was such a inspiration for the artist and you can see all of the fashion that they wore were inspired by her designs and they even had her lighter orb necklace.

I worked for her in 1997 when I was just out of school my first ever job , I used to see Vivienne Westwood every day , the funniest part is that I got the job from the local job centre the description was (office junior and warehouse assistant) with no details of employer , luckily the manager lived round the corner from me and told me id got the job just as I was leaving the building from the interview , was a real eye opener and gave me a good scaffold for my career .. as I then moved on to gucci years later ..good times

Many years ago I sent a thank you card to vivianne as she did charity work for children with cancer. I sent a home made card. I got back a lovely signed card. She was such an icon. I used to teach near her shop and loved her fashion. We have lost such a great woman. But I hope her hubby and family work in her name. Fashion will not be the same. Excellent interview. grrr.... let me begin by saying I have alot of respect for what her and Malcolm were doing in England, but it was in NO way an original idea, hence the "music came second" comment. Malcolm had traveled to NY and "Plundered" the punk rock scene's fashions there , which happened much more organically. He traveled back to England and basically put together the pistols as an ad for their shop. Second, her son is an asshole. Publicly, he burned several articles of clothing from the Seditionaries and Sex era. Things that belong in museums.And here she is saying you can't forget the past or 'throw out the old ways' ..... There's just alot of weird hypocrisy here, and barely any mention of Malcolm, who has since passed, and was the idea man behind the entire aesthetic that got her noticed in the first place.
@solomonandrade78647 жыл бұрын
I'm glad I wasn't the only one wincing at how ignorant the interviewer was about the punk culture which preceded the 70's and the 80's. How could he overlook influential iconic proto-punk bands like The Stooges and The Velvet Underground? If anyone should be credited for the punk movement, it should be accredited to the noteworthy musicians who had influenced the movement like Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, or Nico. Hell, I'd rather credit Warhol for inventing punk rather than Vivienne.
@natalie82125 жыл бұрын
@@solomonandrade7864 I'm with you. I don't know if there's ever been another youth cultural or musical movement that has been _SO_ commercialized. They tried it with grunge, but that didn't catch on like this safe punk bullshit has. And of course, the music is what supposedly inspired the look. But not for Malcolm and Vivienne. The look came first (regurgitated from NY scene anyway) the music was completely secondary.
@moonchart5 жыл бұрын
Her insights into the 20th century are fantastic and so accurate. It's really amazing to be getting this perspective on the last century. However, I find what she's saying about modern day artists actually negative and uninspiring. To say that it's absurd that not everybody can be an artist is as elitist as it comes and comes from a very western notion that separates art from self. It's also a shame that there is very little information about her actually using sustainable materials and paying a living wage to everybody on the supply chains. Lets not even get into the awful "sustainable fashion" line she did in 2012 where the promos included her in couture garments in the slums of Africa surrounded by the "natives". I'm not discounting her amazing work and contribution but I don't think people like her should be exempt from critique.
@PolarBear-rc4ks2 жыл бұрын
i think she was commenting on the fact that there are many 'artists' that are PURELY in it for the money, with no actual concern for art or others
