Thank you. I am going down the rabbit hole for this project. 7 years is testimony enough for me. impressed. Since I am retired and no kids I should fair better. I wonder if appliance paint then then envirotex would work for no yellowing? Although I will probably do art work on them (marble etc)
@LovelyEtc5 ай бұрын
I'm so glad to hear that!! I am not sure if appliance paint would work better, but I love the idea of doing your own art work. Please come back and share with us if you do!!
@haunthunterify4 ай бұрын
Do NOT use envirotex. It is one of the epoxies that would yellow super fast. Within months. You want an Art Epoxy such as UV Art from Promise or maybe Stone Coat which contains UV blockers and would last a few years. These will still yellow over time. All epoxies will yellow.

I watched a video of a sink update using appliance paint (Rustoleum) it lasted 6 months and started peeling. I don't recall if they sanded and primered but I have learned prep is the most important part of a project.

Thank you for the update. I live in a mobile home and your cabinets look so familiar, are you by chance in a mobile home also. You've made a beautiful transition 😍with your kitchen. Well done! I love your kitchen sink too 💖

Thank you so much! We definitely put a lot of work into it. The sink was a favorite part of our kitchen update. 😀

the yellowing is due to clear top finish (epoxy) being exposed to uv sunlight

That definitely makes sense. Thank you!

Just like if you get white painted nails over time the topcoat will make it appear yellow. Same thing

Congrats. Might I respectfully suggest that you varnish it 2-3 times? Great luck. Cheers.

Hi, I watched this tutorial on painting laminate countertops and your tutorial reviewing finishes for white painted furniture. Rather than using the Envirotex sealer I am thinking about using the General Finishes High Performance in as high a gloss as possible to avoid/minimize yellowing. Are there reasons you think this would not be a good sealer for the countertops? Both videos were very informative. Thank you so much!
@LovelyEtcАй бұрын
I am so glad you found it helpful! I would definitely check the directions for the type of paint you are using, but I was very happy overall with the epoxy resin. I do recommend a pour on sealer. I am leary to recommend a different sealer for laminate counters unless I have actually tried it. But, I will say I have used General Finishes for furniture as you mentioned in this article. www.lovelyetc.com/best-topcoats-white-furniture/

My laptop security will not allow me to download your tutorial on how to do this. I have questions. What kind of paint did you use? How many coats of paint? Dry time for paint and the sealer? Did you roll or brush it on? Thanks for your answers.
@Donna-vh5ym2 ай бұрын
Oil-based Primer - She used Zinsser oil-based primer. Small foam paint roller Sandpaper An orbital sander is optional but will make things go faster White paint and two or three shades of gray paint A feather, a few round paintbrushes, a painter’s sponge (for creating the marble look) I copied and pasted it here for you. I'm hoping it stays.

Hi @lovelyetc did you have to remove your sink in order to paint the countertops? Just wondering because i have these small spaces behind my sink and I’m not sure how to sand those areas easily with the sink in the way.
@LovelyEtc2 ай бұрын
We did not remove it and simply taped and painted around it. If it is a super tiny area you may just be able to use a sanding block.
@jessicasigler58328 ай бұрын
What resin did you use or sealer to make it shiny?
@LovelyEtc8 ай бұрын
Hi Jessica! I used Envirotex Lite- a high gloss polymer sealer that dries to a crystal clear, very hard finish. Here is my affiliate link to the one I used. amzn.to/41Ej3Tp
@connieschwarz602311 ай бұрын
i use the same resin on my paintings. and im aware that you have to use heat to avoid air bubbles. what did you do?
@LovelyEtc11 ай бұрын
You can use a heat gun to remove any bubbles.
@connieschwarz602311 ай бұрын
the resin that you used turns yellow over time

We haven't had yellowing with the resin we used. Maybe it was the a different color or material that you applied it too?

@@LovelyEtc You would also have to get white paint that specifically says non yellowing, or it will

Those look wonderful - also they look intentionally beige not white which I think looks great. The whole excessively white trend wasn’t my favorite. The color balanced out the white.

Im a professional painter and thats an easy fix. Hot water, dishsoap & clorox bleach. Will turn white immediately before your eyes.
