I love the black and wish we could do this, but our kitchen has the ugliest laminate flooring 😫 Thanks for sharing your floor I think it's a great idea. Have you looked into a diatomaceous earth floor mat for dogs!? I'm sure someone has mentioned them, but they look like stone and they absorb water or liquid. Its actually really cool, I want a diatomaceous earth bathmat. Definitely look into this yourself as I've never used one, and ofc do your research and see what others say. ❤

I can testify to the Rustoleum Shower/Tub paint product. We painted our daughter's tub in her rental over a year ago. Her husband is a mechanic who takes some pretty serious showers daily, and they have two 95 pound dogs that get bathed in the tub at least monthly. The product has held up without fault for 13 months now!

We bought a formal colonial house where the previous owner had used vinyl for the front hall!!! I didn’t have money at that time to replace it. I got on my hands and knees and using 3 colors of outdoor paint and porch latex paint, taping off squares to make faux marble tiles. It looked so good, my son’s girlfriend got down on the floor to look under the baseboard heating to see if it was really painted. It held up beautifully and looked gorgeous. We eventually installed porcelain tile, but didn’t need to as it held up so well.

If your floor tiles are in a good condition you don't need to remove them before re-tiling or installing a laminate. The only problem is to deal with the level difference if you don't do this throughout, and you need to undercut your doors. We have tiled over most of our floors, and we got a spec from the tiling supplier on how to prepare the old tiles to ensure adhesion.

This video just popped up in my feed today and.I am glad it did. We have this tile in our current kitchen, which I am not too worried about. However, we are hoping to move in 2 years when my husband retires and unfortunately, the area we want to move to is very expensive and we are not going to be able to afford anything but a fixer upper. In our preliminary house hunting, many of the homes in our price range have not had the floors redone and are sporting this sort of tile everywhere. This would be a great option as I like the way your floor looks painted. The fact that it has held makes it even better. I now know there is a solution to the ugly tile floors should we end up purchasing a house with them.

We have a no spill dog bowl that we used camping for our girls before they passed away. It has a floating piece in it so there is only a dribble of water showing at any one time and instead of putting their face in the bowl and then dribbling everywhere they licked it out. Our dogs adapted to it very easily. It needed refilling faster than our big water bowl at home but way less mess.

BRAVO! Truly impressed! Really wish I had seen your project before I sold the house.🤦♀ Had the same tile, but white/beige peachy tones. You elevated the entire space! While I focused on only the grout, I so wished I had the courage to have done what you did! I chose the method of "dying" the grout lines. Previous homeowner used white grout and didn't seal it (should be jailed!) so it absorbed everything from cleaning fluid color and soil. Used a product that required a cleaning first of the grout, then A toothbrush action to apply the dye/paint. It held up very well. Encourage all to look into that if it is only your grout that is an issue. Water Bowl: Did your rubber mat have lipped edges, like an all season auto floor mat? Wonder if that stone bat mat that absorbs instantly would work? Wonder where the moisture goes? WISDOM beyond floors: NEVER trust a DIY floor painter who doesn't😘 🐶🐕LOVE a dog. ~ I saw that quote on a wall plaque recently. Noticed the precious halo, God bless your heart. Friend, while it doesn't get better, it does get different. And...then something happens, becomes sweeter in realizing how blessed you were being SO Loved. Comfort and PEACE 2U.

Great video - thank you for your review and sharing your own experiences in such informative detail. Interior designer here, your color choice of black for these textural tiles looks like a good decision functionally; as you stated, does not show stains or dirt where light colors can. As well as aesthetically- from what I can observe in the video; large, expansive area where black could lend itself to a 'closed in feeling' in a small area. The light wood tones of the several furniture pieces, which complement and tie in with the natural stone fireplace, pop in contrast to the black background. Think of the black velour where jewelers showcase gold jewelry and colorful gemstones. I first got my education and degree almost 30 years ago and it is truly mind boggling as to the properties, abilities and functionality of paint today! Some of these properties were available back then but only in industrial/commercial applications/products - and incredibly expensive with that. Temporary solutions as you've gone with here in your design are fabulous options in the interim until what we would choose can be implemented. Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me. 🕊 🫶 💪 🪷

@@MakerGraybad shape? How so? I didn't notice any cracked or chipped ones. That's the situation I have now. When I first put down the floor 24 years ago I would say once it got cold and the renovation work on the floor underneath dried up there was a drop and cracked all my Center tiles. But the crack didn't show right away. By the time it did. They stopped selling that particular color lot and I never could just put in the tiles that didn't perfectly match in color. Now I wish I had because this would have allowed me to make everything uniform. Home Depot carried the tile brand and color for at least 15 years but now it seems like they don't carry that anymore. So since I would want to pull the tiles that are cracked before painting, I'm thinking the texture on the tile might not match and be more noticeable painted if someone really looked. So if I had put the ones that were noticeable next to each other but the right texture, by the time it was painted, it would have all blended together. Together. I don't think using this on the floors is going to fix some chips and the center row crack so I'm a bit bummed about that. By the way, is it black or is it a dark slate Gray as it appears in the video?

However, the two big Goldens I have are **ridiculously** sloppy drinkers and still manage to flood the floor well away from the bowl, like 4 feet away. But if your pups aren't quite that bad, a DE mat used in conjunction with something like an under sink mat, 'wee-wee' pads, or boot tray may work for you.

I think I'll try the DE mat! However, your goldens sound exactly like my lab. She raises her head and walks away while 2 gallons pours out of her mouth in a path away from the bowl. Its really amazing. Thank you :)

@@MakerGray lol, yep that's us too. Seems there's no preventing it, and I have one that likes to play in the bowl. At least the DE mat prevents the perpetual puddle underneath the bowl. I don't know how it will work out on your painted floor, but it may be worth a try. Good luck ;)

This looks great. Much richer than the original floor. Great color choice.

Looks great! For water concerns, garage floor paint would also work.

I wonder how those new bath stones would work for the dog bowls. I see them advertised for getting out of the shower or bath and the water just disappears. The floor really looks good! It sounds like a cost effective way to update old tired looking ceramic tiles.

I painted wood parquet tiles which were badly worn. There were occasional scratches, I just repainted. I had this situation for at least five years with kids and dogs in a wet environment. Maybe every other summer I emptied the room and repainted the entire floor. I chose a medium teal because it went with our furnishings. The best part was that I was freed from worry because it was really easy to refresh. Over time the wood tiles continued to age and break down and we eventually replaced the flooring. But it gave us several years of easy care floors in the meantime.

Thx for the info. Maybe try a large baking pan over the towel for the dog bowls? You can put a Dycem mat in it and under it to stop sliding.

You floor looks great with the black it looks like a slate floor. As for the dogs water bowl try a Soggy Doggy slopmat they are very absorbent and can be washed.

I think it looks amazing.... Regarding the dogs water area.. I've had dogs that were both careful and the opposite where it's like a tornado just landed.. you've probably thought of, or even tried this, a boot tray I've found effective. But if they are as excitable as some are it may still require monitoring regularly.

What we had before was pretty much like a boot tray, with raised sides. Problem was when the water got under the mat and stayed trapped. Thanks!!

A washable doggie potty pad does great for our dogs water bowl. Mine have held up for 3 years now. This is a great option.❤ the floor looks fantastic! I grabbed mine from Amazon pretty cheap.
