That's not the point, the point is for those who don't have an air compressor or paint booth even to be able to prep the body work and prime the vehicle for someone with an air compressor, spray gun, booth etc to be able to do it.
@tgxperience Жыл бұрын
@@Alpha-Shen I have a compressor and a gun but spraying is sooo messy and finicky. Done properly rolling is well controlled and you don't have overspray on everything in the surrounding area nor have to gear up in a hazmat suit.
@lp92803 жыл бұрын
It is actually similar product as used on boats and planes painting, just there they go all the way. I cannot imagine completing the car with roller would be viable, but I can see that applying high built primer is actually reasonable option - it would need to be sanded and blocked many times anyway, so in the end of the day it makes no difference if it is sprayed or rolled on. This may product to use for people who are not planning to paint their car themselves and who don't have booth or compressor... still you could save a lot on the prep work (which is usually 50-80%) of total paint job cost... so it does make sense. I do agree however that this only works on flat external panels and Eastwood succeeded in choosing most simple and blocky car for demo, I cannot imagine this would work well on more complex shapes.

Nearly impossible to have a smooth glass finish with roller for base and clear. Base coat would have to be non metallic. You may be able to 3000 the base before clear to help flatten texture. But the clear would need almost be self leveling which on a car would be impossible. The biggest problem would be wet sanding and buffing the clear. So many air bubbles you would burn through guaranteed. So if rolled on clear youd be left with a bubbly orange peel shine

OptiFlow cannot be sprayed out of a conventional spray gun... Look, I know it's a second product you'd have to buy BUT, I'd recommend picking up a can of 2k AeroSpray Epoxy Primer. Each can sprays 10-16 sq. feet, which should be enough to get the spots you can't hit with a roller. It's also more budget friendly than a quart of sprayable epoxy, easier clean-up than a spray gun, and looks equally as good. www.eastwood.com/eastwood-s-2k-aerospraytm-epoxy-primer-gray-black.html Hope this works for you, -JD

This is for people who A) want to save money by doing the prep work themselves and B) don't have a spray gun or even a spray booth to use. The price of a full respray these days is quite a lot, if you can reduce the final cost by doing all the prep yourself and having a shop do the final colour coats/clear/buffing etc then this system is great for you. Hell, even if you do have a spray gun and booth at home then you can still use this method because why the hell not lol

I want to paint an RV and have a lot of paint to buy. I want an ice blue pearl finish on my Class C 22 ft Tioga Montara 1997 mostly fiberglass fading white RV. Front chassis is metal, box side is wood with fiberglass shell and aluminum trim. Some questions: 1. Epoxy paint is brittle and can flake off with vibrations in large chunks. This is not a good option for vehicles from what I have heard. E.g. UPOL Raptor Liner from UK is Epoxy bedliner and has issues with flaking off in chunks. Why would you use an Epoxy as a primer in this video, instead of a Urethane that is more flexible and very strong that you also make? 2. I was looking at Durabak18 Bedliner paint from South Africa (warehouse is in NJ). It is a type of Polyurethane (they won't tell me which type) that uses Xylene as a solvent. It can be applied with a roller brush (mohair for fine texture) or sprayed. 2nd coat is when its slightly dry but still tacky. They could not tell me if I could use an automotive pearl coat on top of their base coat, if it would adhere. Can this be done using one of your pearly acrylic polyurethane automotive clear coats? Not sure how the chemistry would work. 3. Alternatively, I can buy your urethane paints for my RV and skip Durabak. How would I educate myself on your ENTIRE range of automotive paint types so I can pick the right one for my project? I am looking for a rock hard finish which is hard to chip or scratch, flexible enough that it can take vibrations, thermal weathering, UV resistance from fading, rock chips will bounce off, etc. I would like to get an ice blue pearl color overall, with satin or high gloss sheen. I would like to use a roller brush if possible. I will be working outdoors in sunlight on a non windy day. I need to know the solvent to thin out and clean up. Is there any gloss pearl clear coat I can roller brush on? Does it always need to be sprayed on if its a gloss paint? Do you have an ice blue pearl paint that is urethane and high gloss? How do I see your color chart? Any sample chips? Thanks!

Epoxy primers have DTM properties (direct to metal) and seal up the bare metal far more securely than an etch and urethane.
