I'm pleasantly surprised. I thought painting the heatsink would significantly increase the temps, but 3~4 degrees really isn't that big of a deal and now the OptiFlex looks better than ever. Great job, as always.

You're not alone. I was shocked with the results! As long as you don't load the paint up on the fins of the heatsink, you'll be just fine! Glad you like the video! Thanks for the continued support. I appreciate it very much!

Looks great! Personally, I would have masked off everything except for the top of the fin stack and just painted that since the fans cover the front and rear. I think that would minimize any change in thermal performance, at least I hope so because I plan to do that to a NH-U12A.
@WiltshireTutorials4 жыл бұрын
That would probably yield better results. But, I wanted to test just how much painting an entire CPU heatsink affects the performance.

For even less performance impact: tape off the main faces of the fins. You don't need to paint those surfaces anyway because they are covered by the fans. That's what OEM manufacturers do for their black coolers. Another option, which oem coolers use, is simply to put a cover on the top of the fin stack. You could probably 3D print one.
@WiltshireTutorials4 жыл бұрын
I was thinking of masking off the fins of the heatsink. But, I wanted to put myself in the shoes of someone inexperienced. Plus, I was also curious to see just how much of an impact the paint would have on heat dissipation

If you go light around the fins area you should be ok, high end radiators are lightly painted on the fins area, you can often see the red of the copper if you look from an angle. Good Job
@WiltshireTutorials4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Greg! That was pretty much my theory. As long as I kept the paint to a minimum on the fins of the heatsink, everything should be alright. Plus, the fins are covered mostly by the fans, so not much colour is needed there.
