Your old video "Hanna solo" is one of the reasons for making me stick to sketchbook pro and it's really great to know that you are sponsored by them, I'm really looking forward to your future tutorials ! and by the way I think the head design suits the theme of this image more than a humanoid one, it implements that he is heavily augmented and only cares about getting the job done . Everything else doesn't matter.

Great point. Usually if they are less human, then they have a bit more mystery. Boba Fett is a great example.

You've got such a timeless style! I love how every detail of the design shows through, it adds so much personality to it. I see so many designers doing vague paintings that leave design questions unanswered, so finding this is a breath of fresh air.

I think this tutorial is just what I needed! I've been drawing characters on sketchbook pro, but they are all so bland! This video helped me realise how much detail I'm missing, and there are so many lighting options, and LOTS of things to try and make my drawings more interesting! Before now there has always been flat, simple areas all over my drawings, and there seemed to be no lighting at all, just flat colors. The way you explained lighting and detail in this will be really helpful, and I think I'm gonna go try this out now!

Hi Trent. Love your art. Any chance you might make a dirty Sketchbook Pro shortcuts video - i'm trialing a 90 day of the software. Awesome work and tutorial. You're an inspiration. The bit where you talk about treating materials as if they have more reflections than they should really hit home. I suffer from the same tendency, and have noticed it a lot more lately. How do you go about correcting that? Just be more mindful of it I assume? Are there any practical techniques you employ to determine the actual/satisfactory amount of light that's hitting an object? Thanks

Even pros struggle with perspective ^^ To solve this kind of problem, loose perspective, it's a good idea to add an additional step on thumbnails phase: Blocking 'whiteboxes' on a 3D application such as Autodesk Maya LT to be used as a guide for the first sketch layer. Modelling a 'whitebox' shape, using the thumbnail as a background image reference, for a character like this would take around 30 minutes.

Hey Trent, I bought sketchbook pro not long ago (sometime in January) because of the amount you've showcase it on your channel (that and it's one of the best priced yearly subscription produces i've bought), im rambling, but I saw Gradient Map 1 as one of your layers and was wondering if you brought the piece into Photoshop during your process? Just curious due to me still getting use to sketchbook pro, but found myself at a loss because I've enjoyed the gradient map layer alot in photoshop. probably the only thing i miss, otherwise great program and glad your channel introduced me to it.
@TrentKaniuga7 жыл бұрын
I was trying to figure out how I can use a gradient map type of technique in SBP. I found that I needed to use a combination of Color layer modes, multiply and overlay. Overlay is probably the closest match to a gradient map function, but you still have to manually paint in your colors. This is my ONE feature that I hope sketchbook pro will add.
@OnceApollo7 жыл бұрын
Trent Kaniuga thanks for the useful information :) I hope sketchbook pro adds in a gradient map tool aswell, but until then I'll try your method of combinding layer types and see what results I get.
