In this video art lesson I cover acrylic techniques on how to paint the large storm clouds in the sky. I also show how to paint the details and textures in the waves and water. I used various paint brushes which I cover throughout the video lesson.
If you have any questions about this painting, how to paint any aspect of this painting, or the acrylic painting techniques used, leave it in the comments below and I'm happy to answer! Thanks for watching this weeks art lesson!
Materials used:
- Golden fluid acrylic paint (titanium white, carbon black, prussian blue, primary yellow, primary cyan)
- Liquitex soft body acrylic paint (cad red, cadmium orange)
- Water for mixing into the paints (thinning) and washing brushes
- Round brushes are either Artist Loft or Princeton brand (round blender/scumbling)
- 16x20" stretched canvas

You are a very talented artist, I could never have your patience to finish this piece, but would love to. I only use acrylics when I paint. Just had to tell you how great you are! I love watching you! Why are your clouds mostly yellow, gray, & brownish, and not bright white with touches of yellow! I’m amazed at the bright white fluffy clouds being the stormiest! Are you putting another level, and I’m too impatient?

I watch already two videos of you. I like the way you show to paint step by step to touch up. I wonder how easy you blend the colors. Mine is dry to fast that almost impossible to blend wet on wet. I see your acrylic paint come from a small bottle do you mixed and prepare your paint before with some kind of medium to make it more runny?

Beautiful work It seems my paintings all end up much darker than I want. How do you overcome that?
@chuckblackart
@chuckblackart 7 жыл бұрын
Been there, try focusing more on mixing your colors uncomfortably too light for what you think. Don't focus on the end result of your painting and instead just try intentionally applying colors you think are a little too light. You have to learn the properties of each color which takes time. I have developed a relationship with every color I use and that took years. The key was always trying new things with them and eventually you learn to mix the colors you were after.

I've used a lot of oil for these as well. That's a tough question, but the short answer is yes. The issue is that you would have to wait for each part to dry prior to applying the next part. It would be a wet on dry technique which just takes more patience with oil. Sometimes I even do the underpainting in acrylic then finish with oil wet on wet over the top. Thank you!
