Ps: look for room darkening blinds you can pick them up at Walmart, Lowe’s, Home Depot etc you can get them in plastic, paper or custom if done at Lowe’s or another place that does custom they can even add one of tour paintings on the outside so if the blind is drawn down that’s what people outside would see

I like how Justin keeps his videos friendly. He could easily edit out if they don't start out smoothly. My favorite trees are Birch with all of the textures of the bark. If this painting was for the landscape, lots of waterfalls could've been added. Love how this turned out.

Happy Tuesday Justin.. Always enjoy your videos.. Wanted to let you know that maybe you should do a PAINTING for your room.. (Black Gesso -something DARK ) something Just for YOU ..Big enough to cover your window. so while you're working you can hang it across the curtain rod and it would block out everything.. When you're done ,hang it back on the wall.. Just a thought... Thank you for all you do.. You are a magical wonderful person..

Thanks for this wonderful lesson, Justin. The galkyd gel looks like it might be really helpful to retain that initial brushstroke and avoid mud. Beautiful painting and a very helpful lesson. As far as what I'd like to see in the future, I hope it's a variety. Different scenes, techniques, and skill levels that we can explore with you. I think most of my struggles stem from a lack of knowledge and skill loading the brush. I have trouble achieving leafy branch shapes that have form. Mine will either look like a blob or little freckles at times. The liner brush branches are still a problem as well. They always want to get bigger on me towards the middle or ends and then I have to go widen the bases to make them look natural. Also, trying to add any small details at the end of the painting (grasses especially) is another big problem I'm facing. The paint gets too thick to add any skinny grasses or fine details. It appears as though I'm not the only one struggling with these things, so that makes me feel a little better but I would like to find some solutions and correct my techniques as best as I can. Thanks again for all you do, it makes a world of difference to us beginners, especially!

Wonderful tutorial and such a gorgeous painting. This has helped me so much, Justin. At around 10:48, you said "I'm holding the brush straight on" while you were making your clouds. That one bit of advice changed my clouds immensely. I finally felt it and saw some happy fluffy, detailed shapes. The pressure needed was way harder, I was very surprised. Before that, I was almost in a rage that I still couldn't properly do "step one (the sky) after 6 months of practice. All I needed was some gentle direction. Thank you again for all you do, it really makes a difference to the beginners like me.

Justin! Thanks so much! What amazing tips! Your techniques are so amazingly helpful. I’ve struggled with the application of a base white for the wet in wet method, the other instructors I’ve seen say a thin even coat, even with wiping it down, I end up w mud issues, the Galkyd Gel and the Gamblin Gel are the way to go! I’ve been practicing and the (pulling or applications) of top layers are so much easier! The stiffer base still allows for wet in wet, but the application of of the top layers are so much easier as are the reflections, the fog at the base of mountains. As to what I’d like to see, barns, cabins, ruddy roads, fences maybe, big strong trees? Anyhow, thanks so much on every level! Have a wonderful day! (PS-I tried the 1980 Gamblin paints. Another winner-totally!)

I regularly use 14 colors in my paintings; lots of pretty flowers. I think that is likely a Bob Ross carryover. I have never tried painting with just three colors, but that’s Up Next. Thanks for a great demo. Mountains always kick my tail. Maybe using fewer colors will be the difference between my wiping off everything with a paper towel and starting over and just finishing the work. Thanks again.

Justin I see what you are dealing with the glare We put vertical slat (thin painted metal) blinds in our large store windows and you can shut and open. After 20 yrs still look good. Think they come in plastic as well. Interesting how 3 colors are so dramatic just by shading. You are such an easy going painter and it makes it a really relaxing tutorial. I would like to see your take on an animal or a bird or duck. You are inspiring!

You could make a blackout frame, much like they did in WWII. Build a frame Fromm 1X2” lumber and cover it with like canvas, or any heavier weight material. In London they painted the cloth black, but since you don’t have to block every sliver of light, you could do whatever you wanted. It should fit inside your window frame and be light weight enough to easily lift into place.

FYI - using the camera angle, which shoots the picture over your left shoulder from the farthest left just doesn’t work. I understand that you are likely trying to illustrate your brush/hand technique, but there’s glare or something and it’s just not working. The other camera angle is excellent.

Thank you so much for them. I haven't used any of the gel mediums you recommend because I'm not sure how they work with the different paint. I have been preparing my canvas with walnut oil, often mixed with white paint. i guess I'm looking for feedback about using water mixable paints. Have you tried them?

Justin I just wanted to let you know your videos and instructions are very helpful. One questions. What fan brush do you use? What size, what is it made of, and who sells it? I have finally learned the trick to doing the standard evergreen trees but I can not seem to find the right brush. I have been buying all of my supplies at hobby lobby and have ran through every oil fan brush they have and while I have found one that can get the job done it does not draw lines like yours or Bob Ross. Also I would love to see some sort of intergalactic painting, a galaxy, or a planet and some moons around a far away star system. Doesn't have to be sci-fi but there are lots of beautiful images of space out there with gasses and dusts and all sorts of beautiful colors. Thanks again for all you do.

Justin, you need some “black out roller blinds” and a “ sorry - filming - back at 5pm - or leave me a message on......tel No “ notice for your door. .........just thinking- if you are really enthusiastic........you could paint on the white outside of the roller blind- make sure it dries and it would give a view to your customers and it’s black on the inside of the studio..........that would be cool to have your work in your window while it’s black inside to block glare from outside..... after all ...the old masters used to root up their canvases............
