Wow! Churchill is an eloquent writer! He gives real, down to earth reasons for the love of painting. How delightful to hear this! Thank you, Kris! ❤ I'm a beginner... but have enjoyed the books I'll list below. I started watercoloring at 68, and at 70, I'll never forget the thrill of seeing watercolor on paper... finding a new love of colors and a new way of "seeing" with watercolor in mind. Books: 1. Paul Clark, Watercolour. 2. The Watercolour Flower Painter's A to Z, Adelene Fletcher. 3. Watercolor School, Hazel Harrison. 4. Atmospheric Flowers in Watercolour, Jean Haines. 5. Everyday Watercolor, Jenna Rainey 6. Watercolor Lessons, Emma Jane Lefebvre 7. Janet Walsh, Watercolor Made easy. From a California Gramma ❤

Hello Anne! Thank you so much for this generous list of books. I have added them all to my ever growing list of book recommendations. I hope to check them all out and possibly do video reviews of the one's that I like the most. Thank you so much for taking the time to share. ~Kris

Excellent Kris. I knew Churchill painted but didn't realize how much. Sounds like a great read.

I have a red leather bound version of that book that came as a box set which also included, Churchill - His Life and Times by Malcolm Thomas as well as A Churchill Anthology by Churchill, which includes some of the most thrilling and enthralling moments of his life. Having listened to the excerpt you read out, I was inspired to add this: To have reached the age of forty without ever handling a brush or fiddling with a pencil, to have regarded with mature eye the paintings of pictures of any kind as a mystery, to have stood agape before the chalk of the pavement artist, and then suddenly to find oneself plunged in the middle of a new and intense form of interest and action with paints and palettes and canvases, and not to be discouraged by results, is an astonishing and enriching experience. I hope it may be shared by others. I should be glad if these lines induced others to try the experiment which I have tried, and if some at least were to find themselves dowered with an absorbing new amusement delightful to themselves, and at any rate not violently harmful to man or beast.

Yes! Thank you for sharing this quote in its entirety. I think I would echo that sentiment of Sir Winston Churchill and say -- "if my little video can likewise inspire even one person to venture into a 'new and intense form of interest and action...and not be discouraged by results' I will be happy! :-) Have a great day.

@@KrisDeBruineStudio It is a rare thing to find a person who has their own unique grasp of language, so distinct in tone and timbre from everybody else, but Churchill certainly did have a way of words all his own. It's a pleasure to have found your channel Kris, I have subscribed and I look forward to watching and enjoying your content. Many thanks.

I enjoy listening to you so much because you present all your subject matter with logic and cohesiveness. At first I wondered whether you were reading from a prompt somewhere. Then I realized that like all good teachers you knew your subject matter well and thus could lecture to your and our hearts' content. Thank you for suggesting Sir Winston's book. I’m going to look for it and download it. I’m sure it will be a special treat.

Wow, what a great, encouraging perspective on painting. Such strong words, just what I needed to hear today! The PNW has so much beauty to experience, I often find myself getting overwhelmed and stuck in ruts of "collecting" reference material without ever getting around to any actual painting!!! Thanks for this😃

thank you for a very interesting video, I love to paint, with acrylics and watercolors, I find that it keeps my mind occupied and helps me from feeling so depressed. Painting is helping me to cope with the loss of my sister, she passed away last December 2022 and I miss her so very much.
