I just came across your channel yesterday and finished watching the video today…this was a most fabulous experience! This is a beautiful painting but the whole process, your thoughts and teachings made this experience one of a kind! Many things you said were things that I thought but wondered if it made sense…now it does. Thank-you for sharing this and it is this kind of art teaching that one needs. 😊

Hi David, You know the saying that when you are ready to receive information it will come to you. Well...I have been struggling for several days with the how to present florals without them being kitschy or expected and out of the ether you appear with this amazing and inspirational way to tackle this problem, At the moment I 've set my oils aside while I experiment with painting on silk with dyes so I need to think about how I can adapt this idea in this format. Whatever happens it will be FUN to try!! thank you so much for appearing out of the ether!!!!

Hi David, this week I'm actually working on a floral in oil...and maybe in the spirit of adventure, I'll also do one in acrylic...and as you see from my much earlier response to your video (see below) you have given me the inspiration to try again. I find I do forget things...must be my age!, but I need to be reminded of things again and again until they become more engrained. So as I said below 11 months ago, you have appeared at just the right time! And I'm so grateful! Diane

Hi, deborahtishman586 - Thank you for watching our program and for writing to us. We are really happy that you enjoyed it! This is painted on a composite sheet aluminium, like Dibond, Compbond, or Omegabond, comprising two 0.3 mm thick aluminium cover layers and a polyethylene or mineral core. You can search those terms and find the material. I believe that certain online art stores may now carry it. Good luck with your painting! Kind regards, David and Connie

Hi David, curious on your canvas which is aluminum coated with what? Thank you for this tutorial.
@DavidDunlopSimmonsArt Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question and your kind comments, alisonthomson4008 - I paint on many different surfaces, from quadruple primed Belgian linen, paper, copper, single sheet aluminum, a composite sheet aluminium, like Dibond, comprising two 0.3 mm thick aluminium cover layers and a polyethylene or mineral core, and sometimes I paint over older paintings on all of these surfaces. It really depends upon my painting, and different surfaces give different effects. Some are harder surfaces and you can make different types of marks with your paint brushes, squeegees , paper towels, and other tools. I always experiment and learn from all of these paintings. Good luck with your painting! Thank you for writing. Kind regards, David and Connie

About 15 minutes before you started to quell the 'eyeballs' in the upper left, there was an even stronger kind of devilish cat face present. Fantastic approach ! What is the substrate ?
@DavidDunlopSimmonsArt Жыл бұрын
Dear tmilychka2008 - Thank you for your question and your kind comments, I paint on many different surfaces, from quadruple primed Belgian linen, paper, copper, single sheet aluminum, a composite sheet aluminium, like Dibond, comprising two 0.3 mm thick aluminium cover layers and a polyethylene or mineral core, and sometimes I paint over older paintings on all of these surfaces. It really depends upon my painting, and different surfaces give different effects. Some are harder surfaces and you can make different types of marks with your paint brushes, squeegees, paper towels, and other tools. I always experiment and learn from all of these paintings. Good luck with your painting! Thank you for writing. Kind regards, David and Connie

I am a bit overcome.. by what I am not sure. Relief, surprise, awe and I think Hope. I am 78 and started painting at 68 as a hobby after the dark room for photography closed. Then on to photoshop and ever since I feel like I am chasing technology I will never understand or will be able to use effectively. However, your explanations describe that I am not not hooked to an era but more to the natural capacity I have to see and to express. I have subscribed and will continue to watch. Thank you for your efforts .

So….if I buy a Dibond panel from a factory outlet do I need to prime the surface in some way, or can I paint on it raw, so to speak???? The art shop seems to charge so much and they say the panels are ‘prepared”. But they don’t say in what way!!
@DavidDunlopSimmonsArt Жыл бұрын
HI, dulcieogilviw5786 - Thank you for watching our program and for writing to us. I also replied to your earlier question about the dibond. I paint directly on composite sheet aluminium, like Dibond, Compbond, or Omegabond, comprising two 0.3 mm thick aluminium cover layers and a polyethylene or mineral core, and on the raw aluminum that I buy from the hardware store. I cut my - wearing gloves - but you can also ask the shop to cut it for you. You can search those terms and find the material. I believe that certain online artstores may now carry it. Good luck with your painting! Kind regards, David and Connie

Can your style and techniques only be possible using aluminum as your surface? Thanks

Dear Artbycarrie - Thank you for watching our program and writing. You can definitely use this style and techinique on different surfaces and you will get slightly different effects. I paint on many different surfaces, from quadruple primed Belgian linen, paper, copper, single sheet aluminum, a composite sheet aluminium, like Dibond, comprising two 0.3 mm thick aluminium cover layers and a polyethylene or mineral core, and sometimes I paint over older paintings on all of these surfaces. @DavidDunlopSimmonsArt Жыл бұрын
Hi, franceskavalec - Thank you for watching the program and for writing to us! I paint on enameled aluminum composite panels, white, silver and gold. They are made and marketed as Dibond, CompBond, AlumaBond and the suppliers will vary depending on where you live. You can also check with local sign painting companies. You can call Laminators Inc. to request materials as well. (www.laminatorsinc.com/)
