Best focus point - in every figurative painting there is a strong abstract painting with values in Dark and light - and feel the mood of the design stems

When I have taught plein air painting I always start by telling the students that what they are about to attempt is the impossible. If it weren't a challenge then it wouldn't be a challenge.

Excellent. One of the best explanations of landscape composition & design stems I’ve seen. My only criticism is how often the host interrupts his guest artists while they’re verbally explaining some 🎨 aspect, and when he asks them questions. He can’t seem to stop himself from interrupting when they’re in the middle of a sentence. It really disturbs the flow, & tbh, it often appears as if the artist is also thrown off track. Beside that, I thought the artist did a great job!

Thanks for the refresher course on the things I've studied over the last 50 years. I especially love the "wipe in" technique with paper towels. I have done a good share of art teaching and have a gig coming up with younger people who won't know how to draw. I was trying to imagine how to teach a wipe out technique (usually done in oil) in charcoal and erasers and an all over darkish charcoal tone for starting. I think Kyle's technique here where he is actually wiping IN the first half of the painting might be just the thing with water based oils in a classroom with of course a very limited palette. I prefer viridian and transparent oxide red with of course white. Thanks Kyle. Your real genius is your innocense and enthusiasm combined with the wiping in technique for beginners .

When the girl asked at 23:23 about the rolling hills landscape, instead of trying to make that work within the wagon wheel (which wasn't all that clearly demonstrated) what he surely should have said is "If the scene doesn't fit using one design stem then use another" rather than trying to force it in to the wagon wheel stem?
