Love this, you have a wonderful talent for achieving excellent work using simple techniques, you keep it neat and nail it. Your editing is brilliant too, I ramble too much and its a struggle to stop my videos being too long haha. The soft underbelly release looks really good, I'm just coming towards the end of an 8th Army project, and I can see some Italians in my future as an opposing force, but also expanding both forces into the Mediterranean afterwards (Plenty of bits left over too). I've just bought into most the bits I need for a Pacific project, so it will have to wait until that's finished though.

In terms of an airplane model, what citadel color should I use for a Corsair? I was gifted one but I only have citadel and AP paints but wasn't sure what would be good for as close as historically possible.

I honestly couldn't tell you - I don't know what they look like! Your best bet would be to find some colour examples online and just eyeball it, or if there's a painting guide featured for them with Vallejo or similar colours there's comparison charts and such available. One of my favourites is here: redgrimm.github.io/paint-conversion/vallejo-model.html

That'll be way too much water. All you want to add is enough that it flows smoothly off your brush, or just starts to smooth out into a flat puddle on your palette.

Excellent job! I like how the wash softened things up - nothing's too harsh and is easily ready for highlights. I do have a question that is adjacent to this video. You mentioned the North African campaign at the beginning of the video and that the model was a transitional figure. For Konflikt '47, would the Americans in the Middle East be painted like the model shown here? I'm having a hard time figuring out what colour scheme the US would use in the alternate timeline. Also, do I need to convert the Americans to sell the desert look, or would a box of normal GIs do the trick?
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio 2 жыл бұрын
US forces didn't really change a great deal depending on where they were deployed. You'd probably find they tried to keep mostly to the pale khaki jackets and brown trousers as a practical matter, but once Uncle Sam was churning out green gear, they'd get what they were isused! For the alternate timeline I'd see it as being the same case - equipment made to stockpile during WWII was still being issued during Korea, so you aren't going to have to convert anything just for conflicts around the world if you're playing Americans. Standard infantry will do the job.

They do, but I'm not a huge fan of the way they sculpt faces. They're a bit light on detail if you're not planning to paint them nicely. The figures are otherwise brilliant, though, it's really just a style choice I don't much care for.

@Sonic Sledgehammer Studio as a wargamer I’d not thought of that. I spent time planing armies for Trevor Halsall’s Napoleonic Rules . It was unfortunate that a player ad to pick an army from Austria, Britain, France and Russia. Within certain limit’s. Whereas I would have forced an 1815 British Army to have (from memory) one third British and KGL then Dutch, Belgian, Nassau, Brunswick in proportion . The same with a French army, not allies but of mixed quality. Another way would be to choose a scenario from an actual battle where the opponents were of equal quality or where one side had superior numbers of less quality.. Easy for an organiser to work out. A player would have to paint an army for the event or borrow a friends army.

13:25 - the answer is guarding the rear areas, delivering post and latrine digging!! Had of been a few dozen more more Irish guards we would have pushed the gothic line just south of Berlin by the fist week of 43 or there about's!!!. However in all seriousness another masterful paint job although Ive read a few comments expressing disappointment over this Warlord set - was that you're exprience? Also I would like to see you do a double take/side by side on the new Italians soon to be available by Warlord and Wargames Atlantic - both of which were announced on the same day I believe.
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio 2 жыл бұрын
When it comes to the Warlord/Wargames Atlantic choice, I'm probably going to stick to Warlord's new Italians for the time being since they're guaranteed to fit with what I've already got. Wargames Atlantic's tend to be just a fraction thinner, closer to the Perry Miniatures line. I don't really have much use for two boxes of infantry from different suppliers, unfortunately, but I'm sure there'll be comparisons out there!
@tehlulzpare

Absolutely brilliant. The Italian Campaign is often overlooked, and the conversion to make Brits(or anyone using their equipment) is convincing. I'd love to see you do the plastic Italians from either Warlord or Wargames Atlantic! Paint job is great too, "Hollywood History" solves a lot of problems for being wargame models, not scale recreations.

He looks stunning!👌 I love the 8th Army arms. I have a couple of questions, I find Vallejo paint goes a bit off colour over Agrax Earthshade shade, can that be fixed by sticking to citadel colours? And what Matt varnish would you recommend?🍻
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio 2 жыл бұрын
If you're having trouble with Agrax, a 1:1 mix of Army Painter Strong Tone and Quickshade Mixing Medium will give a similar effect but leave some of the high points untouched by the shade, which works really well. I tend to quite like Vallejo's matt varnish spray, I've not had any problems with frosting from it yet.

@@SonicSledgehammerStudiothank you for the tips I will give it a try. I’m fairly new to figure painting. It’s a bit nerve wrecking when I put so much effort into all the basecoat only to stuff it up on the shading.

Aly's Brown Liquid: The most unfortunate name for the most fortunate miniature painting trick. I learned about it in one of your earlier videos and it's indeed incredible for any color that is not light blue or cold white. :-)
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio 2 жыл бұрын
I've found that for most things where I'd use Agrax Earthshade, Aly's Brown Liquid is a quicker way of getting straight to the highlighting if I'm painting bulk troops. Though... yeeeeah, that name does stick out. 🤣 Great way of achieving some notoriety, though!

@@SonicSledgehammerStudio Oh absolutely! ABL (Problem solved? :-D) is just a nice middle ground for the overall color tone of most paint schemes. But the more important lesson for me that came with it use was to utilise mediums. I thin every down every wash by 50% now and it did wonders for my painting. So thanks again. :-)

But, but, one must have the correct shade of feldgrau from that specific production run from the Munich factory. . . . :-) (scale modeler here, so I know that whole silly subculture/obsession [cult?] around colour accuracy) A someone who has worn a uniform in the field, I can confidently say that no factory colour survives one field exercise and subsequent washing.
