The Fire Chief DEI hire admitted she didn’t know how a fire hydrant worked, but just expected water to come out. If she had, she may have realised the problems of dispatching 17 units to an area at a greater elevation than the water supply. It’s almost beyond belief that all through her dei promotions, she did not take the trouble to learn, or it was beyond her.

It was for a mechanical safety test to see if they were safe to be on the road not just emissions testing. Bloody stupid thing to do either way but the allegedly over 100 californian fire trucks were off the road as they got rid of the mechanics. the term couldnt organise a piss up in a brewery comes to mind here. Did you see the asst fire chiefs X video about if she has to carry a man out of a fire its because hes in a position he put himself in? and stating having emergency responders the same colour and sex as you is important in an emergency.

I'm a firefighter in the Australian NSW RFS and we use portable pumps extensively when our bushfires impact on urban areas. It appears to me the Los Angeles Fire Department does not have a portable pump included in the equipment of their fire trucks. A standard Cat 1 firetruck in the RFS carries at least one, and in the newer trucks two, portable pumps. These pumps can be carried from the truck by two firefighters and set up at any water source, such as a private swimming pool. From there the pump can draw water from the source and operate two high pressure fire hoses. I have personally done this many times over the last 28 years, our crews protecting not only the property with the pool, but also properties either side and those across the street. No big city such as Los Angeles or Sydney will have the immediate water storage from reservoirs to maintain pressure if large suburban areas are under bushfire attack. But those same suburbs often contain scattered mini reservoirs in the form of swimming pools. It does not take much extra training for crews to become proficient with portable pumps, and though not always useful, they frequently are extremely useful and may well have helped save a lot of properties sadly lost in LA.

As someone who lives in a bushfire zone in Sydney and who has a swimming pool, I can confirm the RFS always place tape at the front of our house to identify we have a swimming pool on the property, should it be required to use in a bushfire. We are always grateful for the work of people like you in the RFS with the excellent preparation work every year and for the amazing work during a bushfire.

I’m pretty sure it’s against the law and a safety concern to paint fire hydrants. Color codes indicate certain classes of how many gallons per minute flows from the hydrants. There’s no way that the fire hydrant was painted rainbow. Regardless of this photo, she should be investigated for her actions anyway.

​@@JulieA64-Ms power is messed up all over so cal. For the last four months or so, I have not had consistent power for more than 10 days in a row. Since this fire, ie the last 9 days, we had power come on for a little over an hour twice. But, they don't tell us, so we all run to turn on the heat and hope to catch a hot shower before it goes off. Then brrr for the night. We are having trouble keeping our home above 48 degrees at night. Very crazy.
