Painting light in watercolour is always difficult because we have the light before we start a painting, but we often forget to preserve it.
I see also artist that use to weak mixes and to little water. when you make a watercolour the water is your guide. not to much and not to less.

It's always exciting to see how your paintings turn out Edo. You even seem to correct your mistakes successfully. Always looking forward to the next demo, thank you. Oh, by the way, I fell for your April fool prank, I'm ashamed to say!!! LOL Glad I forgot to try the filtered water I use for my tea!

Well Barbara you were not the only one! But it is also good in a steam iron. ;-) . Corrections are not what you want in watercolour, but on Bockingford the first layer will come of with a bit of a damp brush. And when you see them happening you can act at once! but it is risky!

I am so glad i found you through the link from Oliver Pyle....your styles are very different and yet both so poetic and complimentary and I have learnt so much from you in such a short time, so now it will take me years to accomplish what you seemingly effortlessly do, then i remind myself that your journey has taken years too.... Thank you for sharing your talents and fine "artmanship" Edo. Kind regards Keith Fey

Thank you so much Keith. It take years indeed, but the steps you make in the beginning are much bigger than at the end. But after that you already can paint in a good way. The fine tuning is something after that. Paint a lot is the key!

@@EdoHannema-Watercolour-Art ...It's the same as everything in life Edo, always learning, always practicing, but please know this, finding a few excellent mentors, even though they are a million miles away on the internet, has revealed so much and given me confidence to suddenly enjoy my art. and that's a certain secret important lesson of the journey... enjoyment. you have opened my eyes to unlimited possibilities, where before i was floundering in "muddy watercolours" .. Thank you. It is a very cheap chinese brush that I have in several sizes. It was a present for my birthday from my mother when I started painting. they are very difficult to paint with but I found out that for this sort of tree technique it is excellent. the brand is Vang.

Excellent work Edo! You used to show your palette while you worked and that is a benefit for us to see as you paint. Plus, your sponge. I am having troubles getting the correct amount of water, with pigment and do not quite understand when and when not to use the sponge. And I do understand, practice, practice, practice! A painting a day keeps the mind out of a painting.

Its even harder! every brush with different hair have a other intake of water. for example a Hake hold 3 times the amount of water then Squirrel. The right amount is when you really paint the surface with water and pigment, instead of pushing a drop of water and pigment.

@@RobertHopkinsArt I also believe in that all colours should be transparent! My general palette just have those. I have only one colour that is half transparent, that is neutral tint. I use for dark poles and other little things. But I have several palettes, some contains even opaque colours. Like the Kremer Pigmente Box.
@RobertHopkinsArt

I never thought to look at the color charts of the paints I currently have (Daniel Smith and Winsor) to see if they are all transparent. I will do that today. Thanks again, Edo!
