Chris Austin I have a concrete floor in my basement after previous owners pulled up carpet. I would love to just paint it and be done . I was going to pay 1200 for laminate flooring to be put down . What would you suggest if I did just paint it ?
@chrisaustin234 жыл бұрын
@@mrsmurphy6371 Howdy! I would say that installing laminate flooring versus just painting the bare concrete are totally different animals and it depends on what you want out of the space. For us, we had a totally unfinished basement that was previously just used for storage. We wanted to "nice it up" a little bit while keeping a budget. We wanted a space for our 7 year old to be able to play in with his buddies and not worry about the space. I painted the concrete walls, and used the Porch and Floor paint for the ground. Cons: it's still concrete. It's hard and it's cold. We're adding rugs and remnant carpet sections to soften things up. Laminate flooring creates a much more finished space, but it's much more expensive. Pros: much easier to clean than bare concrete and can easier be vacuumed and Swiffered. It's also cheaper. Prolly $130 worth of materials applying it myself. It's also really durable. I built a partition wall and was banging around 2x4s and there's very minor damage to the floor. I hope this helps. Good luck!
@mrsmurphy63714 жыл бұрын
Chris Austin omg you are so kind to take your time to answer my questions . It’s a nice space it’s his man cave has a 80 inch tv nice couch and everything . But you are right it’s cold conrete will remain just that if we don’t go a step further to make what he actually wants . So I will keep looking for laminate flooring until we are out if this “crisis” . At this time I don’t want people in my space anyway ! Again thank you for your kindness and your time today you simply just made MINE ! Many blessings to you and your family !

I understand starting with a clean surface when you paint anything. My question would be, even though I've used Rock Solid products before (they make a deck stain that's incredible) but how well does this floor paint stick to glazed tile. My worry would be that with normal wear and tear along with mopping that eventually the paint would separate from the tile, crack and peel. As a kid, we had an unfinish basement with a concrete floor and my mother would paint it at least once a year and there were always spots where the paint would bubble and crack. I understand that paint products have come a long way since the early 1960's, but I wouldn't want to go to all that work just to have the paint eventually peel off. Any suggestions or comments? Nothing is ever as easy as it seems.
@loulou13563 жыл бұрын
You should sand any glaze off that you can and use a good primer 😊
@KatherineForbes3 жыл бұрын
Rust-Oleum doesn't recommend sanding - so I didn't sand and it's held up for 2 years! I'd be nervous to mess with the finish of the tile and be left with something gritty!

@@maryissacooper6249 haha oh gosh - one and only bathroom. When I did our bathroom I waited EXTRA long just because I was nervous - but with the kitchen I had to go in and out a few times to get to the fridge. I'd suggest to wear socks and be quick, don't stand in any one spot for too long!

This is a great video!!!! Approximately how long will the paint last before it begins to wear out? Or would sealing it every few years (how many) keep it from wearing through?
@KatherineForbes3 жыл бұрын
I've had my floors painted for 2 years (in the bathroom) and almost 2 years in the kitchen and they still look great.

If we move a wood or iron furniture, is it OK? Or scratch the paint? Thank before.
@KatherineForbes2 жыл бұрын
@@hanumsuryo5726 I wouldn't push furniture or move it often, but we have a freestanding island on our painted kitchen floors (and have for 2 years) and it hasn't scratched the paint at all.

Lol, I looked in horror at the date of this video as soon as you started using the Clorox wipes and thought, yep, right before shiz hit the fan and you couldn't find disinfecting wipes or toilet paper to save your life! Great video, I'm considering this for my kitchen.
@KatherineForbes4 жыл бұрын
Haha who knew finding Clorox wipes would become "a thing" only weeks later!? I've been using a generic Target brand lately because that's all I can find. Good luck if you decide to paint your floors :-)

Lol, I'm doing this but I'm doing black and white 😭 and the kitchen is huge luckily I have masking tape

I'm jealous - black wasn't an option when I got this paint 2 years ago! I totally would've done a black and white pattern for sure!

thanks for the video. How are your floors holding up? Do you have kid or pets?
@KatherineForbes4 жыл бұрын
Literally JUST sat down at my desk after recording a video update of the floors so stay tuned for that coming soon :-) No kids, but yes a dog and he goes in and out through the kitchen every day all day! And my husband might as well be a kid haha jk but no he loves working in the yard and is constantly coming in and out through the kitchen with muddy shoes and tools.
