Patrick, a while back we discussed ( through this channel) how we shared learning watercolor way back before internet and all the help available today. And here we are both of us now working in oils. Like you I’m enjoying it so much. I’m using water soluble oils. This painting of yours is fantastic. Tallahassee Florida

How lovely to have a warm ,sunny, painting demonstration in these depressing times ! Great to see how choosing the right photograph can influence the mood of the painting with a definite source of light allowing to develop good tonal values and connectivity in the painting . Thank you for brightening my day!

Lovely to have you back with us Patrick. I thought this painting was beautiful - so free and easy and yet so very readable. I agree with you on using your own photographs - it helps you understand the relationship between objects if you can remember what was there.

I am really enjoying this, while you paint in oils, I am thinking about trying it in gouache. I dont think there is anything better than a stone home with an abundant garden. It is striking but at the same time we can picture ourselves there. I will always look forward to both styles, thank you for your time and letting us enjoy too.

Beautiful result and thanks for sharing the drawing process - I too find it helpful to use a biggish grid to get elements in the right place

Great to hear you are using water miscible oils. Besides the end of oil painters being exposed to solvents, toxic colors are no longer necessary. Most leading manufacturers now offer Dye-based hues as substitutes for Cadmium, Cobalt, and Chromium VI -based colors. These will go the way of lead and uranium based colors. The new Hues are proving to be archival, and are great color matches to the heavy metal versions.

This is fabulous Patrick. I love the light streaming from the left on a diagonal down the middle of the painting and the light on the building behind. I didn't know how you were going to get that until I remembered that you are using oil and can of course paint light over dark. Question: You said that you wanted to get the painting done in under an hour. That suggests that you didn't wait for drying time between layers - is that accurate? Also, do you have an idea of when you might start beginner's classes for us uber newbies to oil? NO pressure friend! Have a great day and thanks for this great video.

Nice work Patrick, great oil painting. I have one canvas that I'm just itching to use. I do mostly watercolours but do love to get out the oils 👍

You are inspiring me to take a crack at water mixable oils So far it seems you paint all in one go so the waiting for it to dry is not an issues I don't think i have the patience to wait so this may work for me After doing some research online they seem to be much less toxic than acrylics that are avail My question now is how often do you find that you are using the linseed oil and can you still use a water clean up after you use it ? Also i think you mentioned you got a set of brushes from somewhere --i would love to have that information please Thanks for the inspiration Today ill just paint watercolor and think about the oils lol
