Thank you :) I'll try and save up. I've used watercolour and acrylic brushes in the past before and honestly any synthetic hair brushes is great, also this might sound weird but Japanese calligraphy brushes are also great for watercolour, gouache mediums. :) hope I helped.

The translucent jellyfish truly popped with that black paper. Wonderful subject matter for it! When I tried ceramics in college it was truly an A for effort. The instructor even stood by me step by step but every time we put it in the kiln..disaster. He actually told me the only reason he gave me an A is because I came in all the time but if I took his ceramics two class, he would fail me. Hahaha!

Something about the color palette and tone of the woman herself (the pasty pallor, the blue shirt, the long black hair) makes me think of The Grudge/Ju-On...which is strange considering the peaceful floral setting. But I just get a Japanese onryo/yuurei/ghost sort of feel from her. The black paper really brings out the contrast of the women and the setting by making her feel more deathly and the environment more vibrant. I really like it a lot. But those jellyfish are so pretty!

In my school we had this activity where we painted with acrylics but using our feet instead of our hands to handle the brushes lmao. It was cool because at the end we came to the conclusion that painting is a matter of the eye, of how we see things. My painting came half decent, surprisingly.

This was actually pretty recent, and I think I’ve been doing better lately. I was planning a comic, but I have taken a break from making it, since each paged just looked...different. I wasn’t completely satisfied with my style, and I’m still working through that. Because of this, every page looked different, and the style wasn’t consistent. I think this was because I was stopping myself. I wanted to try realism, but felt like I needed to stay with my sort of cartoon style, because I felt like making the comic later on would be much easier for me if I kept it that way. I forced myself to stay in that “style” and not experiment, and that made me upset with my art a lot. But I decided to try new things, and do more attempts at realism. I think this will help me develop an actual style I love, and I hope I get better in the future...

I was in my school when my art teacher said we would be painting. I was so happy because we didn't even do any paintings for so long while the younger grades did like 5 paintings! We painted trees and maybe did a reflection of it. Then the requirement was to put a colorful background. We had to make sure that the colors looked good next to each other. Mine was okay but it was actually really fun.

Ahh, watching your videos is soo therapeutic. Really puts my mind at ease. As for your question, my friend is really good at making sculptures out of cardboard, paper, and glue. I gave it a go, but I didn't do too well 😅 he made it look so easy, he made swords, and a mask all in a few weeks. It took me months to make my... thing. Whatever it is.

the first time i ever used watercolors, it was with artist-grade watercolors in a professional art class. i did so terribly, it was so uncomfortable for me compared to acrylics, pastels, etc that i never tried them again. when i took my required art class in high school, we had to use crayola watercolors and i was so apprehensive, but i ended up doing better than i ever could in a legit art class with expensive tools. i think it was because i wasn't afraid of ruining or wasting cheap watercolors lol

When I first used watercolor it seemed so alien to me an artist who had only ever used graphite and colored pencils and at first I was so frustrated with it I saw other artist use it so beautifully and I just couldn't get it to do what I wanted so after a few attempts I kinda gave up and set it upside and about a month later I tried it again at that point my mind was clear and I made a point of being patient and even looking back on the results now they weren't very good but at the time though just seeing that it was better than the last time gave me so much motivation to keep trying and now I am in love with watercolor it's my favorite medium even above colored pencils so if anyone is reading this and your really frustrated and feels like it's just impossible take a break maybe not a month later but a break wether that's an hour or until the next day you'll feel so much batter and try to be patient I'm no expert but once you get your bearings watercolor can be so versatile and controllable it's just a little difficult at the start stay strong and keep practicing ❤️❤️❤️

I studied Painting for years and my comfort zone in materials was acrylics and oil paints. I Drew Electric poles , Humans with wings (not quit angels ) , Buildings and Houses . After graduation I was sick of materials and things i painted . Then started watercolor for the first time . Inktober was the thing that helped me get out of my comfort zone . I did planets , whales and moons in space which i wanted to do since childhood . After a year I have managed to balance my art life . I’m currently working on a exhibition for my comfort zone ( buildings ) and I can challenge myself into getting in Illustrations which is a big and different for me . I wanted to thank you because I had the courage to get out my comfort zone because of you . The way you reviewed supplies and made fantastic illustrations with them was a wonderful push for me .

I would want to say an art medium I was (and honestly still am) unfamiliar with would be Gouache actually! I didn't realize it was at the time, and thought it was regular paint, so I gave a try with some large canvas' that I had picked up from my local art store. It did not end well at all, I thought it was a type of paint I could use dry and without any water... I ended up using nearly all of the black in one day and didn't realize that even normal paints need water to be used. I was so frustrated with myself and the paints that I stopped using them for a good while. Coming back to find them I was shocked, and hurt that I didn't realize what I was in possession of. I'm still scared to use them and use canvas' from that large mistake years ago, but every time I watch one of your videos, I feel myself coming more and more out of my shell and wanting to revisit my gouache set.

regular paint, like, wall paint or something? because I put water (or dilutant) in all my paints except when I have to renovate the kitchen lol i'd say gouache is like a mix between acrylics and watercolor, you can do layers of washes but still go for that thick layer and texture. it's also soluble (but in a lesser degree) so you can reactivate some of it given a bit more time. usually I go for a nice big palette with a bit of colors and then mix in water and colors until it's the consistency and hue I want. it's super forgiving and easy if you let yourself try and make mistakes. you'll never get good at it if you don't do the stuff. also, yeah, if you do big canvas, you'll need lots of paint, like everything. it's less intimidating to just go smaller and do simple stuff first to test out transparency, texture, etc. watch out though, as to not crack the paint when it's dry (usually it's because it's a cheap paint, you dried it too fast or you bent it) also, it usually dry way lighter, so try to account for that! anyway, always remember that art is about MILEAGE, so go paint your ugly stuff now so that it's out of the way for nicer stuff later. cheers

First off, love the jazz hip hop chill vibe music. And second, I got paid today and I'm going to buy some art supplies. Black paper and some white color pencils. I got inspired yesterday when I went to the library with a friend of mines and she showed me some pictures that some of her special needs clients made and the colors were so strong and bright. I was amazed at the color schemes they used and how beautiful they came out. My whole art class is me using mediums I’m unfamiliar with lol. I’m in high school, and my teacher (there are 3 art teachers who handle separate divisions of art such as fine art or crafts. Usually not a lot of classes are switched between them) teaches advanced painting classes. Whenever she gives us our topics she tries to make them broad, and she always finds some wacky way of doing it. In her class I’ve explored print making, drawing from life, distortion in paintings (like how weird things look under water), we’ve even done full size murals for our schools walls! With her grant money she had a local artist come in and help us plan a design, show us how to cut the glass and secure it to the board. And we all hung it up together :) I’m so grateful to have had her in my life as a teacher. She’s taught me a lot of new things.

One art medium I was unfamiliar with and ended up surprisingly enjoying was scratchboard! It's a really interesting process, like a mix between carving out a relief and drawing with a dip pen. I recommend it to anyone who wants to try something new!

I got some nice color pencils as a present from my aunt not too long ago and so I thought it'd be nice to experiment with them, by working with them I learned that I liked them more for adding texture to my watercolor paintings instead of just using them alone. Trying new supplies is really fun and I feel like the more supplies I try the more I learn to add elements to my art and make them more interesting to look at♡

the first time I ever used pastels was in middle school for an art project and I was so out of my element; up until then I had only done digital art, so it was a massive learning curve for me. we were given the task of recreating a famous painting and I chose one of the Van Gogh sunflower paintings! it was so much fun experimenting with a medium I hadn't ever touched before, and I ultimately received an A on the project :)

I used to sculpt miniatures from polymer clay as a kid, but I’d never used paper clay or any air dried clays, but after watching diy videos, I decided to give them a shot. The fluffy texture you can get from tearing into the clay is really interesting and perfect for creating replicas of baked goods.

Not long ago I got paints that changed color based on how the light hit it. Like Green to gold, Blue to purple, etc. We did a pour painting on tiny little canvases. We also folded a paper and figured out that the paint dried with veins if it was left like that. It was cool.

Recently I've been doing these all hatchwork black and white sketches and pieces (I'm actually working on one while watching this video, lol) and I think that this is the first time I've tried it and been really happy with the results. I'm having trouble with dying fine liners and my paper getting eaten away (my poor sketchbook can't handle the ink), but overall I love the textures I can get with something this simple, and just the quality is something I'm not familiar with! I might try to combine it with my watercolors soon, so we'll see how that works out! I love your speedpaints and all of the crafty stuff you do here, it's super inspiring and they're one of the things that pushed me to keep improving and not giving up on this art thing! In high school I took art electives, and I loved it. One project used black paper with white charcoal. It was to help learn how to use negative space. I drew a gargoyle, and I loved the reference picture, but I my first drawing attempt wasn't great. But, I learned from it.

I would love to see anything more gouache related and thank you for reminding me about the trick of mixing white gouache with regular water colors. I’m going to have to try that. I am always interested in anything gouache related as that is my new medium challenge. I’m really drawn to painting Night scenes and they are so hard to do in traditional watercolor. After years of watering down gouache so that was basically just watercolor, I finally tried painting with it in its opaque form last week and I am so delighted and in love with this new medium! I just tried doing a portrait for the first time yesterday and it was very hard but ultimately turned out great. I can’t wait to find out what more is possible and what doors are being opened by using these new tools. It’s really exciting to, after drawing and painting for so many years, stumble upon something new that I love!

I love using colors for anything, even when i try to do realism. I’ve been starting to use the acrylic pouring technique for new ideas. I usually enjoy anything that involves multiple colors at once, but its very hard not being able to control the outcome of the painting and how the colors mix.

when i try new mediums, like the first time i attempted gouache, i like to draw what i'm comfortable with, like a portrait with just graphite or ink, and then add accents with the new medium, to slowly build confidence with it! it's less intimidating than going in full force to do a whole piece with a new medium

Watching you paint is very therapeutic... A Zen time. As for Ur q. I followed a video to paint galaxies and stars using poster colour. At first it was disastrous.. by the third attempt it turns out quite nice. Then I tried my own colour combinations like blue and red, and green and yellow.. but the one I'm most proud of was the pink, purple and blue (^_^).. well mostly ​cause I'm bias to purple and blue.. and the fact that I can do it made me happy and confident in myself.. It took me months of watching lots of art videos to finally try it myself.. I just usually sketch using pencil and pens. Telling myself it's a waste of money to buy art supplies beside the sketch books cause I'm just gonna suck at it and give up. When I was younger some of my school mates used to criticize my sketches even when it was not ask for. Taking interest of me as I was sketching. Taking my books and saying how bad it is.. how it's not good enough not like my other friends in the art club. So it made me subconscious of my arts. Well long story short.. art KZbinrs such as yourself, help me get over my inner perfectionist and fear of failure and just do it even if it suck and don't go as I wanted it to... Thanks ;)

Around 2 years ago I tried using oil paints. Omg that was a disaster! I'm used to paints like watercolor not having a delay and moving with your strokes. Oil paints don't do that cause they're so textured!! I was only able to use a bit of it before getting frustrated but now I'm trying to use it again! I've seen more people paint with it now and it looks so fun!!

My entire artist life has been a "let's use this brand new thing!" experience. I tried using pastel chalks baaaack in high school when I wanted to be a "real artist" (plus, a character in a Jacqueline Wilson book I loved was using them too) and really, really couldn't make them work for me, I only did one drawing and didn't even finish it, haha. Later on, I got into markers when I first wanted to incorporate colours, after drawing solely in black and white (ballpoint pen). I first got a Neopiko Color grayscale set, because I figured that the transition from b&w to colour would be easier if I used some grey first, just to ease myself out of pure black, and later used cheap children's sets of markers, so I wouldn't waste a bunch of money if I ended up not liking them. I did, but I'm happy I didn't get expensive Copics or anything, because now I'm not using markers anymore. A few months ago, I got my first EVER sketchbook (always drew on loose printer paper until then) and it changed my entire freaking life. Now, I not only have everything I've done in one place (I do both sketches and finished pieces in it) and can actually trace my progress, but I've also been doing a bunch of new challenges, like blind contour, that I NEVER would have done before. Not to mention that I've also gotten into watercolours/ gouache now, and it's an entirely different world to markers. I never realized just how limiting markers are; if you don't have the exact colour you want, well, tough luck, buddy, because you can't really mix it! I'm very happy with my art journey, and very happy with where I am now :)

A medium I wasn’t used to was actually gouache. I had been using watercolor and even Acryla gouache, but they handle so much differently to normal gouache. Ive been experimenting more and more with it, and I’ve been really happy with the outcomes so far!

I'd never used calligraphy inks before in my art, but my art teacher let me use her old inks and I was just blown away by how cool they were! Of course, I wasn't very good at using them, but I decided to order a bottle of ink online and practice using them at home. Now I use them more than I thought I ever would.

After losing my mother I became seriously blocked, like for years, the hole just kept getting deeper and deeper. I got into adult coloring books and that helped me start to climb my way out. The Biggest thing I did though was to get a black drawing journal and I challenged myself in two ways. I could only use white pencil and I could only work on the drawing for about a week to a week and a half and then I had to declare it done instead of nitpicking it and overworking it, or just give up on it. It was so much harder than I tought it would be, and I ended up getting so much better at it than I thought I could. It really challanged me and helped me grow...of course now I'm struggling with colored drawings....that's the next challange!

I used clay for the first time today and did a huge acrylic painting with my friend a few weeks back, so I’ve definitely done a lot of experimenting recently! I wasn’t the best with the clay, even though it was certainly fun, but my half of the acrylic painting was definitely better XD (Lol, I’m evil.) I’m very glad I discovered your channel - it’s certainly relaxing after a long day!

Nearly every video of yours relaxes me from whatever is happening! Its wonderful. An art material I wasnt sure of was using pastels. My teacher had some in his classroom and we were assigned to creating a scene from a book and I decided to use the pastels. It turned out really muddy and... well chalky but it was a fun experience to say the least

One of my most memorable art adventures was when I first got my very own copic markers. As a young artist, it’s kind of a dream to get copic markers. They’re probably the most famous art supply ever, like every artist knows of copic markers. And I had bought them using the money I received from winning an art contest. I bought 2 packs and I was so scared but so excited. I didn’t want to ruin anything, I knew how good they could be, but I didn’t know *how* to do it. Getting copic markers was a fun experience though, I got to freak out with some of my other artist friends. This was only a few months ago by the way, so I’m still not that good at them but I’m learning! But I hope this counts as an art adventure lol.

One of the most surprisingly enjoyable media when I tried it for the first time was 3d modeling, specifically in Zbrush. A while ago I played with the free trial and it was actually pretty intuitive and awesome and really helped me with thinking three dimensionally which helped in my 2d work as well.

back in my last year of high school i decided to paint with oil (despite only using it once before with awful results) and kept it my focus for most of the year in my studio arts class because i decided i was sick of acrylic drying so quickly. i thought it would be a very slow medium to work with which is only partly true, it dried in weeks but it changed the pace of my artwork because it made me step back and just wait, and in that time i learned a lot about how to analyse my art and the oil painting technique i used in general. i used to doodle with oils by the end of that year but i havent touched them in about 2 years now 😭

For all I can remember, my mother has been my greatest teacher and inspiration. She welcomed me to this world of drawing, this art world that I never new would be my greatest passion. She also bought me a watercolor coloring book that I was hesitant to try when I was little and she showed me how easy it was to get the brush and put water on the page and like magic, there was paint already on the paper. These coloring books already had the watercolor on them and all we had to do was put water on the page. I’m not sure if they exist anymore but I was sooo nervous to try it. There were other mediums that got me like this too like acrylic, oil pastel and watercolor (but this time with actual paint from the tube). I enjoy all of them now. I just had to put my “fear of the unknown on the side.”

I'm experimenting with acrylic and I'm really enjoying myself. I'm still in the very beginner side but I'm practicing, watching tutorials and pretty loving it. I especially love to work with a palette knife, the result it's so dramatic. I really love you sketches. I'm also starting to like working with gouache so I'd love to watch a video on how you make your own 😊

The first time I used water color I remember having my Crayola set all ready and my college rules paper to paint on. Of course the paper buckled but I was 10 I didnt rlly care lop. I made this messy ombre rainbow and it was pretty and then my brother came and muddied all my watercolors and I got super mad and didnt use water color for a while. I'm 15 now and I'm starting to get back into it and it's really fun! I really want to try gouache now. Tbh I hadn't even heard of that medium until I found you're channel which makes me feel a lil dumb but oh whale now I know. Thanks and I love you're art!💕💕💕

I tried using oil paint for the first time today. My mom gave me this really nice set of van gogh oil paint because i got really good grades this year, and im so excited to take it to portugal with me next week and just sit in the sun and paint

I’d love to hear more about your gouache! It seems perfect for me who has trouble dealing with the translucence of watercolor but doesn’t like the thickness of acrylic

The first time I used inkwash was on really cheap paper that was even cheaper than printer paper but somehow it didn't warp at all and I made on of my favorite art pieces of all time. Also these were absolutely beautiful pictures good job

I tried gouache and it's very hard to use for me. I really like using watercolour so it felt like acrylics to me. The paint just didn't blend well when I used it. But you "watering" out the gouache is very interesting! I would love to learn how you do it. :)) have a good day

The first time I tried Tombow water soluble pens I used them on sketching paper in an inexpensive flexi sketchbook and I hated them I didn't understand how they were supposed to work. That's when I started learning about all the different sketchbooks and papers that were available it seems like I've come such a long way since then. I love water soluble markers now especially for travel sketching when I don't wanna bring my watercolor pallete or for just doing relaxing experimental sketching at night time before I go to bed to help me wind down.
