Pull the masking tape when the final coat is still wet to prevent tearing of the paint at the edges. Some paints are more prone to it than others

I'm not a 'wall painting roller painting' expert but I think the second coat is always necessary because the first layer is kind of like a base doing a second coat will make it more opaque
