Painting realistic still life with glass, liquid and fruit - Demonstration by Aleksey Vaynshteyn

In this video I demonstrate how to paint a still life in oils. The still life has a snifter glass of Amaretto and persimmons. I go through the entire process from initial oil sketch to final painting. I use the wet on wet technique, which give the painting a really fresh and expressive feel. This video is a time lapse that is sped up by about 5 times.

Great work ! I want to try and get into painting, and seeing your steady hand, on the intricate fine details, mine (hand) would be wibbling about, and resulting in something that would not look like this at all 🤣. But, I know it's something that will come with time and patience. I'm trying to learn to be less flighty, and stick to something creative and which I'll enjoy. This was a superb watch though, loved it. 🎨🖌️

I'm painting on a gessoed board. I do the sketch with burnt umber diluted with linseed oil. You can also use odorless paint thiner or turps, but I like just pure oil since it is non-toxic. Once I'm happy with the drawing, I go in and paint my darkest darks. In this case, it's a mixture of ultramarine blue and burnt umber. To make some of the darker middle tones I've added some yellow ochre and white to my dark mixture. For the persimmons, I used cadmium orange, cad red, and burnt sienna. The table is yellow ochre and burnt sienna. There's also a bit of chromium oxide for the greens and some cad red and alizarin crimson for the Amaretto in the glass.

This is called real talent ....the painting itself talks about the confidence you’ve in your art and it also reveals the positive of your mind ....it’s not a finished piece of art but yet it does have that feel good factor which is very important to get attention of the viewer ....very impressed 👍🏻👍🏻👏👏👏

valzerna thanks! I use pure linseed oil as a medium when I paint indoors because it does not produce fumes. When I paint outdoor, I use equal parts of turps, damar, and linseed.

If you noticed the sketch was a bit diffrent after it was erased . We use that technique in painting to correct the objects and their places in the canvas before starting to paint

I'm a Mermaid ...I am a painter and an ex-English teacher. You wrote, “If you noticed the sketch was a bit different...” Can you see why you need to put a comma after the word noticed? The way you have it now, it reads, “ If you noticed the sketch....” But you want it to read, “ If you noticed, the sketch...” I assume that you came here to learn about painting. I hope that you don’t mind a bit of instruction in a different subject.
