Love how Tori approaches this video by showing us how to learn from mistakes. It was so helpful to learn about creating realistic perspective, composition, colors, light and shadows. Love Tori’s conversational style and easy-to-follow explanations.

Thank you for adding this free for us on KZbin! You make very important points - people think skies are easy, because they often have fairly indistinct forms: but of course, they're not - and if you get them wrong, the whole painting will be wrong.

Using her own unsuccessful painting as teaching tool, Tori immediately engages her audience as she proceeds to teach her craft by example. Her style is engaging and very informative. In a short space, Tori gives excellent instruction and encouragement. I immediately want to know more!

It’s true what you say about perspective. That said, it’s surprising how often clouds do their own thing and appear to be out of the rules in real life. Your painting isn’t beyond repair. Consider it a starting point to move on with it (and not leave it as a ‘fail’). Block the clouds in a bit and then correct the light on them. It has a nice perspective and could be an interesting video if you chose to do it. By the way I can see you know what you are doing, your work is beautiful.

I love that painting!!! Can I please have it? In return I can show you literally THE worst cloud in the world. I wanted a fluffy cloud to kind of go away from the top into the distance. What I got was a deranged map of North and South America tornado going straight down. It is so awful I just can’t. And I love yours. It has a surreal feel.

Hey Gordon, thanks for taking the time to comment. I've heard that before on this particular video! Sorry! This video was designed to explain how to use chalk lines to get the right perspective, not necessarily how to paint clouds stroke by stroke. Please check out my KZbin channel for other videos that do show me paint in real time. In the next few months, I am hoping to have a "Painting Clouds and Skies" course, available on my website ~ but I'm not there yet! I'll put an introductory video on KZbin when it's ready. Hey Melissa, You are the 2nd one to make that comment ~ and I agree! Seeing the brushwork is always better for me. I'm trying to navigate how to show a painting that has taken many hours or days. I just released a new video that's a thumbnail painting, preparing for a big sky. Here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rICkiWV-lNalfM0 It's done in real time and shows all the brushwork. I hope you'll check it out. I'm working on the largest sky painting I've ever done and have been thinking how to film and edit. Based on your feedback, I'm going to film a close-up of some of the cloud work so you can see how I do large clouds. I really appreciate you taking the time to share this feedback. I hear you!! @joyfulartvictoriahagaman4563
@joyfulartvictoriahagaman4563 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Connie! Yes and no (: I think of alla prima as being primarily with oil paints, painting wet on wet. This was done in acrylics. I did let the blue background sky dry (which didn't take long) before applying the clouds. I often will use a retarder to slow the drying time of acrylics to give the acrylics more of an oil work-ability, but in this painting, I just mixed and applied and things dried fairly quickly. I am working on a large painting now, probably will be posted this Friday or next Friday, in which I'll show some close-ups with a slow dry medium and more of a wet on wet approach. Thanks so much for reaching out! If there's anything in particular you'd like to see in a video, I'd love to know your thoughts! Tori

Louise, thank you for your on-target suggestion. I'm brand new to videos and have struggled with feeling pressure to have videos go quickly so people don't get bored. But as a painter, I love the videos where I see those brush strokes. I just finished a video of a sky thumbnail painting, in preparation for a large painting. In it, you'll see the real time painting and all of the brush strokes. I hope you will find it more helpful. It's scheduled to come out this Friday morning. I will also consider doing a video on one large cloud and show all of the paint mixing and strokes. I appreciate you taking the time to share much-needed feedback! I hope you will continue to share! I do have some videos on my channel that show actual brushwork in real time (one on painting a thumbnail in preparation for a large sky painting and another on painting in background trees). I hope you'll go to my channel page and see those videos. I am also planning to do some future cloud videos that will show the actual brushwork in real time. Again, thanks for your feedback and I plan to have more of that type of video in future! My grandmother was Canadian ~ love Canada! Tori
