Half the steps, music to my ears, I’ve been so slowly trying to get to grips with digital art, I’ve watched far more than I’ve painted, I find paper so much easier though my favourite watercolours can also be frustrating. I also have adhd so forgetting about it or feeling it’s a small mountain to climb is in there too. This is really helpful, you’re possibly the most detailed in your tutorials, even a few I saw from others via Patreon didn’t go into this much detail. I love your style, though I’m finally finding my own and realising emulating someone else isn’t necessarily going to feel right. I just discovered I love the wet paint brush, just enough texture, but no gaps like some of them.

I have a huge thing for rim light or light in general, and I think you killed it! Especially the leftmost sketch where it shows on her face. 👉👈😳
@DavidRevoy2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, rimlight really helps to communicate the volumes, but it's also very difficult to place this strong light correctly. The top light blueish is much more easier to setup and paint and has room to make mistakes (not a lot of values changes on it). But the rim light in comparison directly catch eyes; and better to be precise in this case.

0:47 Charcoal_Rock_Soft FTW! It's firmly on the favourites list. Thanks for making it! :D Edit: idea... is there a reason you don't have/want 'super thanks' enabled? I'm sure loads of us would use it! (I didn't immediately realise the idea of it was to highlight the viewer's comment, but used it just now to chuck some $ at another creator, so no regrets -- YT have my details, so was faster and easier than going to a third party tip-jar and be faced with a sign-up page etc.)

Hey thanks! oh yes, this preset is a friend from a long time; I made the mask manually in 2009 for Gimp and my Dvd Chaos and Evolution; to try to simulate a little bit of grain/texture at a time where the feature wasn't existing. With time, it's probably the animated brush mask I made who survived the best. Fun you speak about it, because I made 5 variation this week about it, I think I finally fixed the edge issue with a repetitive pattern happening when doing a line stroke horizontal. I'll release the brush soon. :) For the YT button; I saw it but I think when I tried to it the system was still in beta or limited. Then I lost track about it. I'll not that on a post-it; for sure it can only help. Thank you for the constructive suggestion! 👍

what brush were you using once you started doing the painting over? It looks similar to one of the ones in your brush pack but thats an inking brush and I can't figure out how you're using it for blending like that.
@DavidRevoy2 жыл бұрын
Hey, it's indeed the Inking-medium-flow of my brush kit; I blend using opacity variation on pressure (so I just build more or less opacity) and use the color picker a lot (Ctrl). I even map this Ctrl button to the button of my stylus because I pick a lot. You can see the number of color picking with the color history (once I have the palette on canvas, I just move things around at detailing). I hope it will help!
@ASpaceOstrich2 жыл бұрын
@@DavidRevoy Ah okay. I'm really bad at blending myself and I think its cause I'm not making strokes correctly. I think I'll try using a similar brush and see if I can get the hang of it.

This timelapse is very very fast. Could you please make it a little slower? It's almost impossible to reproduce and learn. Thank you for your contents :)

What brush do you use for sketching?
@DavidRevoy2 жыл бұрын
Almost all steps are done with f)_Charcoal_Rock_Soft; a brush part of the Krita default. (I only used a smaller brush for detailing at the end).
@Yoh.2 жыл бұрын
How did you add the flat colors ?
@DavidRevoy2 жыл бұрын
I just set my sketch to the 'Multiply' blending mode in the layer stack; and created a paint layer under. Here I just painted with f)_Charcoal_Rock_Soft the flat color (not required to be precise, because the sketch lines were thick). This type of sketch can't be used with automatic flatting technique (like ColorizeMask; or the Gmic filters).

may I ask what canvass size and resolution is your set uo in krita?
@DavidRevoy2 жыл бұрын
Hey, it's visible on the bottom right of the Krita interface on all my video; you'll see the various resolution. I usually try to go larger than a A4@300ppi; on my new machine I can cross 4000 pixels easily.
