Painting Tutorial: 1/76 German 1939-1945 Wehrmacht Infantry

In todays tutorial I will show you how I paint my German Wehrmacht soldiers.
The soldiers are a mix of Airfix Afrika Korp and regular German WW2 Infantry.
Paints used:

It feels like they could use a wash of Nuln Oil or Agrax Earth Shade wash to help give them more depth

I did use the black wash for that but I think your right, that’s something I want to try next😁👍🏻 More recently I’ve started using enamel pin washes and they are better.

The gas mask canister was painted »Field Grey No. 2«, »Field Grey No. 3, or »Dark Grey No. 46«, or »Aviator Blue Grey RAL 7016« in the Luftwaffe. Tamiya paints are formulated for 1:35 scale miniatures, which Tamiya also offers. To use these colours on smaller 1:72 or 1:76 scale miniatures, they need to be highlighted by 15 to 30 percent grey, beige or dark yellow. Google "aerial perspective" for the theory behind "scale colour". If black washes are used, the field grey base colour needs to be highlighted even more, otherwise the miniatures end up looking much darker than actual Wehrmacht infantrymen would at the same scale distance.

Hey, thanks a lot for the advice, I really appreciate it😁👍🏻 That’s an interesting concept, I’ll definitely look into that. I’ll be fixing up a lot of aluminium gas mask canisters😁👍🏻 I’ve began experimenting more with Vallejos paints, are they formulated to be lighter or are they better for 1:35 as you say Tamiya paints are?

How tall is 1.76 figure ?

The Airfix ones are roughly 2.2mm tall standing up, so quite small@@user-ge2in4vt9s !

Lucas, its better to give em a primer after washing it for the paint to grab the surface. I suggest u to change the water and get a new brush ;) And colors, before you start painting whatever u´re gonna do, look for info in google to choose the right colors, canister, helmets... And yes, a wash for the uniforms and flesh will help, anyway thanks for the video , good work and the most important, enjoy ;)

Thanks for the advice mate! I’ve gotten a lot from this video, may be worth doing a version 2 tutorial with priming, better colours and an enamel wash instead of acrylic and a bit of mat varnish. Take care and happy modelling to you too👍🏻😁

Question: Is there much difference between 1/72 and 1/76 scale

There is a bit, it gets more noticeable the larger the real object would be so for instance you can notice a decent difference between a tank in 72 Vs one in 76, but with figures it’s only a few mm difference and manufactures all have their own interpretation of how tall a 1/72 or 76 figure should be. The Gas-Mask-Container was not Alu-Metal, it was Green , or Grey 😉! Alu-Metal will blink in Sunshine, you will see it of miles.😉 !
