Are you kidding! You took ALL THESE STEPS, and YOU SHOWED THE CLOSE-UP OF THE FINISH! The foam, the primer, the bloody lot in between! All done properly and you did not rush it. Unbelievable. We all know there is no "perfect" in this job but you're as close as one can be. Guess you're working for yourself... No business would make a video like this one. Just came across your channel and I'm about to check out what else can I learn from you. Thanks!

Another great tuition video which I can’t thank you enough for. I watch every one more than once and you both teach me so much. You really should charge. Anyone that gives a negative review, remark or just a thumbs down is pathetic in my opinion. Even if they do something differently doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be open to new or other options for solutions. It certainly doesn’t mean you guys are wrong. I hope you ignore them. Keep them coming Gents. I don’t care how many times you may show a similar fix or tip. I learn something every time. Happy New Year to you and your families.

I love your attention to detail and your meticulousness. The camera angle is great. Have you been back to any of these foam fixes years later to see how they held up? I've lived in my house for five years and I'm just now getting hairline cracks. I'm pretty sure they painted before I moved in. I know they didn't use foam.

Thank you.. Some caulks dry out and do crack eventually especially if any movement. Even silicone badly applied can start to come off.

uPVC cleaner makes sense for uPVC frames. What would you recommend for removing paint and grime from powder-coated aluminium frames? Windex seems to work better than nail polish remover but still takes alot of elbow grease. Using the angled wooden trim to scrape off the sealant is a great idea. I scratched one of my aluminium frames doing this with a 5 in 1.

Yes takes a steady hand and always being prepared for it to slip. On customers jobs you can not take the chance of scratches. White spirit or mythalated spirits to clean.
@MarcGray19903 жыл бұрын
Loving these polymer sealants now.... in my opinion it’s a great situation to use them as you have shown.... the bond to the surfaces is excellent and even with the foam I guess a certain amount of movement can still happen with temperature increase expansion and contraction to the window frame / sill etc and the polymers do have a certain flex to them which will prevent any cracking. You won’t shift polymer sealant once gone off like you can with silicone or caulk. They are also so much better against condensation around windows and for exterior use. Thanks matey! Take care!

Does it matter if you use exterior sealant for the inside like this ? I have a lot of exterior stuff but I want to do the inside . Also how do you keep your brushes good long term when finished the paint do u soak in a mineral spirit ?
@PaintingandDecorating3 жыл бұрын
Always check data sheet to see if its okay to use inside.. some exterior materials take longer to cure over time giving off gases. Brushes.. oil we keep in water... brushes we use in Zinsser B.I.N. we keep in methylated spirits. Thanks

Really enjoy watching and leaning from your videos. Thank you. Tried something different the other day instead of using my finger as normal for me. I'd noticed that using my finger leaves a concave profile in the sealant. I had used my finger around the bath previously which was ok'ish but under the shower head where the water runs down the wall onto the silicone it kind of gathered, only a little, before running off. And I was always bleaching along there to keep the mould at bay. Racked it out the other day and re-siliconed using a fugi kit with a 45 degree angle. Absolutely amazing finish and looks real good and the 45 degree angle hopefully should stop some, if not all the water from pooling along the silicone. No more finger for me. I know I slightly digressed from the window topic though. Waiting for the finger gags to start coming at me. lol

That sounds fine to use. As long as it's a finish sealant as some will not have paint on.. some sealants will attract dirt.

Can I add. I do get a little confused as to when you use BIN or 123. Is that just your own personal preference or what you happen to have to hand?
@PaintingandDecorating3 жыл бұрын
It's best for the sealant more flex in 123.
@rupertwilson7020 Жыл бұрын
Zinsser B.I.N. contains shellac, which has special properties: dries in hard sealing layer of shellac, good for sealing in smoke/tobacco contaminants, water stains, or priming over tricky surfaces, including MDF .. with advantage of quick drying, but.. it has no flex; not good for joints nor high temperature fluctuation, such as unheated outside building.. 123 is different and has the flexible qualities.

I’ll paint over water based primer? I thought they were incompatible. I have had real problems with Weathershield water based top coat over oil based primer on an exterior job where the topcoat has come off in patches.
@PaintingandDecorating3 жыл бұрын
Would not really recommend a water based top coat on oil undercoat.. you would have to allow the oil undercoat to dry for a week and a good sand to key... oil going over water based undercoat is completely different.

You protected the surface from the wipes.Before but at 4.21 you use a scraper.. Doesn't that ruin the surface?

The wipes works up the paint and leaves a residue so best to keep it off the woodwork. The scraper was just to remove the last of the sealant. Thanks

Interesting, but don’t get the purpose of foam filling a gap which the new sealant would otherwise fill/seal. Also why not paint the window board first, before sealing, then you won’t need to prime & paint the sealant.
@idi0tdetectioninprogress3 жыл бұрын
The foam is to secure the window sill board to stop movement. You could hear the hollow sound when he tapped it.
@Benzknees3 жыл бұрын
@@idi0tdetectioninprogress - Thanks, but a thin bead of v.compressible foam isn’t going to stop any movement. Especially as the movement of the window board is up/down, not back & forth.
@idi0tdetectioninprogress3 жыл бұрын
@@Benzknees Its not a thin bead, its expanding foam, and he got the nozzle a fair way down the back of the sill. Usually its down to poor choice, or use, of a No Nails adhesive type product when installing the sill which causes the problem. Unless the hollow is like the Grand Canyon, foam should be fine.
@Benzknees3 жыл бұрын
@@idi0tdetectioninprogress - The gap between the frame & window board looks pretty thin to me! He’s having to squeeze the tube together just to get any in. A gap which would otherwise be filled by the sealant & give it something to key to. Seems counterproductive.
