Restoring the look of your UPVC windows

I have a window that gets battered by wind driven rain. Consequently, water seems to creep in past the rubber seals around the DG units, then come through the other side. What I discovered was algae had settled in between glass and rubber seal, basically breaking the seal. I took off the inner beads, removed the DG units and scrubbed the seals clean. No more leaks.

I use that Bond it PVC cleaner all the time its very good stuff

I used this solvent with excellent results, it does leave the UPVC dull after use though. I'll try some t-cut or car polish to bring back the shine.

yes best only used on really dirty plastic. cream cleaners are not as harsh and buff up to a shine.

try Halfords white colourfast t-cut with wax.....works a treat on upvc.

my dad sprayed roofs of garages near house on a windy day and the pvc has had speckled in paint for 15 or so years. is the PVCu sufficient to remove or would I need thinners? slightly afraid to use thinners in case it effects rubber seals etc. I was using plumbers mait putty as a clay bar for my car, and used it with just soapy water. it works but takes a helluva lot of effort

It all depends on what your dad used to spray garage roof with... would take a serious solvent to affect rubber. Although black streaks can come off them on to the white. Thinners would be too strong... white spirit.. may be brush cleaner... solvant PVC cleaner.

It’s not dye it’s the rubber breaking down oxidising I guess from weathering

Magic sponges with the solvent work much better than the rag mate give it a try flash ones or the ones from aldi seem the best. Also nicejob

What can remove the pink/red fire safe expanding foam on new Pvc windows? I tryed a couple of things but I only got the worst of it off there's still quite alot that a Stanley knife blade scraper doesn't even even get off! Thanks

It really is difficult to remove you can try PVC cleaner or white spirit and allow it to soak, and scrape a small part at a time. People say acetone may work but I've never used it.

Good stuff, I was told not to use it too much though as it takes a layer off. I have a wood effect PVC front door in direct sunlight all year round which looks like it is peeling, can i paint it?

It's best to only use the PVC cleaner if really necessary like in the video, then wash them down with warm soapy water when next cleaning. Brown plastic can sometimes have a film like a layer, and without having a look it's difficult to say if you can paint your windows.

Not all UPVC doors can be painted. Some plastic doors and windows can delaminate over time from exposure to the sun.

No problem painting UPVC doors and windows, in fact it is not an uncommon job these days. The paint adds longevity by protecting the plastic from the sun's UV light. Make sure you first prime with a high adhesion primer such as Zinsser Coverstain or Mythic.

Should never use solvent base liquids ect on PC it breaks the finish of the plastic you ll be cleaning every week after. Should use nothing more than diluted soap water and a good rinse with clean water..

It's difficult to say because it goes off height and how dirty and the size.

Solvent literally MELTS the finish only looks good for a few days,walking on dust sheet will still break those tiles as you cannot see which part of tile you’re standing on,you’ll be on forever using one finger cleaning!

Ur upvc windows are Not very secure coz u can remove the beading from the outside and remove the glass!

It is easier to snap the lock on your UPVC door than to remove the glass units. A good crook will get in through your UPVC door in 30 seconds.

Clean with Cif and hot water with green scotch pad, clean and dry off, then spray on car wax polish and buff away.

A green scotch pad risks scratching the surface making more work and polishing out. Cream cleaner and a microfiber cloth followed by the auto polish is better.
