I know someday, someone (probably my son) will be going through my life/crafts and say “what was she thinking”. They’ll have no idea what to do with it all. But to me it’s my treasures, my life, my security. Now I’ll be adding painty pages. I’m only 68, I’ve got a lifetime of crafting ahead of me. I think I need to walk down to our community book exchange and see what I can find.😊❤😊

Hey Ceri! What a great video and perfectly timed for me. I just bought 4 lovely books to repurpose in a similar fashion. I started altering one for a journal already, but the other 2 or 3 will be torn down as you suggested. I was going to leave the books together and paint the pages, but now I know better! Thank you so much 😊

Another great idea. I saw Gayle use the pages for gluing, and then she would fold them in half for I believe pockets, etc. I use them to glue. When too sticky I then really glue, stick it everywhere, and then fold in half. I then tear it apart for college. Master board in another book I use as a c Master collage book. I like to stamp on them and color with markers. I also like to turn them into journaling cards or tags. It is interesting how we never run out of paper. 😂

Hey Ceri, I too paint an doodle in books but I love the idea of tearing the book into thirds. So much better then my current method of sticking pieces of wax paper between all the wet pages and hoping for the best. Thanks for the tip. Now off to watch your new stencil storage video ~Patti

Great stuff, Ceri. Right up my street. To date I've been doing this on separate sheets but I love the use of old books, especially as you've got ready made covers for pennies too! I love recycling, upcycling, making art out of rubbish. So satisfying. I love the randomness of painty papers. I also save all the kitchen paper I use for mopping up ink - I've got a box of it, and I select one with ink of the analagous or contrasting colour on it already so I don't end up with mud. Once the paper is completely covered, it goes flat in a pizza box. Being 2-ply you get double for your money. Sometimes I get that pizza box out and just riffle through all the papers and stroke them lol! When collaged they feel like fabric. Gorgeous! I don't use baby wipes very often but when I do, I save them in the same way. They are really tactile when collaged.

I use my craft scalple and carefully cut a little at a time which works. Ialso cut on the other side of the last page if in good condition as a cover page to glue my journals or books in, otherwise I put my fabric books in without the back page.

I have a bunch of crumbly old books that I bought for collage in a different manner. However, this looks like so much FUN that I'm going to change midstream and make painty papers. I have a ton of painted papers but, can anyone really have too many?
@KLThames2 ай бұрын
Years ago I remember watching Cat Hand, and she mentioned that someone commented about her throwing out leftover paint, and so she started to make "A journal of unwanted paint". If I can find a video, I'll link it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXjJq2N6aq16iLs I started one of them, but found it annoying because waiting on paint to dry is like... waiting on paint to dry. I love that you've torn the books down so you don't get the pages stuck together. I may revisit that and try tomake it a habit using book pages this way. Great video as usual, Ceri!

Love your vibe, art, philosophy, Ceri. Everyone lauds art making and experimentation in books. But how do ppls paint 1 page, wait till it does or prop it up risking mess, or do pll work in multiple books parallel. I'm which case there's no continuity, a hodge podge of experimenting. In random books. Plus what if you love a page and want to use it as a painting or collage pieces, so now the book is ripped up and the Pic on the other side is lost... So I use individual pages and store them in a presentation booklet with plastic sleeves.

Because you are so cautious about not offending people, you might want to know some religious groups think fortune-telling is the devil's work. (It's pretty difficult not to offend anyone.)
@CeriGriffithsАй бұрын
I must admit I thought of that but I think it’s highly unlikely the majority of my creative community friends would be offended. Also I’d be covering 99% of it up anyway, you’d have to be really looking hard to be offended.
