Foreign currency is the jam. Was able to get a full set of 1's(50) - 5's(25) - 10's(25) - 20's(25) for under $20 (7 for 1$). Got them from a flea market, took some time digging through a 5 pound bucket. The gent running the booth got a mixed bag of foreign currency every couple of weeks or so. Had to go back a couple of times to flush out a 2nd complete set but totally worth it. The feel, weight, and sound is unbeatable for the price in my opinion.

What currency?

Real currency for games, so simple an idea but yet so elusive till now. Excellent idea and it makes counting pieces after a game all the more reasonable. Can't wait for Component Proponent issue 2 to come out, maybe we might even get an origin story.

AkaiSamurai Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad the video had some suggestions you found helpful. And an origin story is a good idea. I wonder if French Stewart would be available to play the part of Chaz in it...

Ukraine produced a bunch of new coins for circulation, and then the production of the Euro made the almost worthless, but you can buy a full set online at sites like ebay for 20$. The come in 1,2,5,10,25 and you gete 250 for 20$ so for your 100$ including shipping you would get 1,000 coins and have a number value printed on them. Ukraine Kopeck

Since posting this video, quite a few coin suggestions that I wasn't aware of at the time have been brought to my attention, including these beauties. Very nice ones! I'm making a list of the additional ideas and products that people have mentioned, and I think a Part 2 video may be needed! For those interested, the Kickstarter page for "The Best Damn Metal Gaming Coins Ever!" also links to the developer's website.

The best option. Better than any of these options is Custom Ceramic Poker Chips. You can get them in any image you can imagine. Monopoly, 18XX, Axis & Allies, etc. . .. you name it. When I finish getting my Designs together, I will be having Mandychips make mine.

You should check out Fantasy coins, you can get 1 coin for 40 - 50 cent and the coins are big und hefty!

I work near a Chuck E Cheese, and so have slowly found tons of their tokens. They are good light coins.

Ooh, I hadn't thought of that one. I'm going to take my daughter down to our local Chuck E Cheese and load up on some mouse money.

I've been using Scythe metal coins since that came in, and was using Viticulture metal coins before that. I think Scythe metal coins are around $20 for $500 worth. Only games I don't use them in are ones that require a load of money (for which I use Dice Tower card money), and games that need money that's either hidden or of small sizes (e.g. Glen More in the market, or Castles of Mad King Ludwig where the provided cardboard money barely fits on the 100 area tiles.)

Thank you for watching and commenting. I have quite a few more reviews of games and components in the works, and I hope to continue posting them on a regular basis!

CCC - is there a cure? Love blinging my game as much as playing. I got packs of Chinese Good Luck coins, glued 2 of each together (as they are rather thin) then airbrushed/washed with metalic copper, silver and gold acrylic. Now I have a decent universal coin set for all games I play.For other components (food tokens, small items) dolls house section on Amazon is indispensable. All else - Fimo polymer clay.

Have you ever thought about purchasing roman coins? You can buy bags of them online.
@GameNightPicks9 жыл бұрын
+Sharlene Kerr I had not thought of that. I will check that out, to see if I can find any reasonably-priced ones. Thanks for the tip!

May I also suggest fool's gold... It's cheap and has a nice feel to it, but obviously it is only viable for games which use "gold" or are fantasy/pirates etc or doesn't need thousands of pieces of them to play.

I bet there must be some real money from some unknown country that can be cool and cheap
@zenerat9 жыл бұрын
Any foreign currency would be good and definitely cheaper than us currency
@Tupiaz7 жыл бұрын
Especially one not in use for instance old Dragmar (Greece), Peseta (Spain) or Franc (France) should be able to buy online relatively cheap since they where widely used not that long ago only a little more than 15 years ago.

Poker chips as money does not work well thematically for things that are fantasy/historically based with Gold being the idea of the money sure but Sci-Fi or some kind of modern-ish setting it would be ok. Meanwhile those gold and silver coins won't be good for futuristic settings. Those campaign coins in Australia would be good for me since I live here... in Australia that is. Those real American coins won't be available for me I guess lol.
