I practiced all the rudiments on the pad and on the kit in various tempos & dynamics from really slow to fast. And most important try to stay relaxed and consistent throughout while practicing.

@@MatthiasKnorrMusic For something like this performance I think it is necessary to have some innate creativity with your feel, and you definitely seem to have a lot of creativity Matthias! And that is in addition to practicing the rudiments for, as you say, the consistency that is maintained throughout your playing. The 5 rhythm is really cool, the feel I get from it is really similar to a groove I played to a riff in 5/4 time that a guitarist I'm jamming with came up with. For the first 3 beats of the 5/4 they are played as 3:2 and the 2 is subdivided into triplets. Then beats 4 and 5 are played as quarters (or just the quarters accented if I'm doing a fill with faster notes in the same overall bar feel). Don't know if you were feeling this Times Five piece in a similar way, or in a completely different way!

Hi Andrew, thanks for watching my performance. I had the honor to study a full day with Dave personally and he told me what his concept was to move more freely around the kit. The most important thing was to setup the drums in a manner that it would fit the grip (in this case traditional grip) and good playing posture. That's why my setup is so similar. It just works fantastic for ergonomics. I completly "rebuilt" my setup after the lessons with Dave.
