Thanks Terry! Finally someone that can appreciate this alloy & knows that alot of the B8 cymbals out there (that ive found) sound as good if not better than some of the more expensive ones. Ive combed thru music stores & pawn shops & have found some beauties myself Bonz. Best part is when u take 1 to the owner & ask about it, they see its a B8 & quickly say "Give Me Fifty Bucks & Its Yours", cause to them theres no big profit in it & they just want it gone; OK then?! Here's the trick; "Look for Thin or Reg weight B8's, the Thinner the Better & Crispier it Will Sound", I have found some Awesome cymbals by using this method & its true, not All but alot of them are keepers & will sound decent, for a heck of alot cheaper too, & we all know how expensive drum products & accessories can cost nowadays. Btw, B8's & B12's are usually louder & can cut thru the music better, give em a Rip, I'll be checkin out your vid's Terry.

Hi Terry, your channel is overall great, and your videos always informative, yes you ramble a bit but those who bear with you on that will get always something informative and usefull out of your videos, I just bought a PST7 ride, basically basaed on your comments about the series remarking their similarities to the (for me at least) "holy grail of cymbals" the 2002's of course. Just wanted to thank you for all I've learnt from you man, rock on!

IMHO as a proud own of 80's era 505's now, the PST7's won't hold up their quality as long as the 505's have...A few people on the drum forums I've been reading equate the 404's and the 505's to the Alpha's and PST models in their pricing level and grade them accordingly. Terry has gotten me interested in obtaining 505's and I couldn't be happier. I like them SO much more than the Giant Beats and the 2002's of today. The newer ones don't have the cut and volume that these 80's cymbals STILL have 30 plus years later

Weird, the Giant beat re-issue sounds more like my 20 inch Zildian I family crash/ride than the others. Isn't that original Giant Beat what Nick Mason once used?

You've peaked my interest in the 505 series. Yeah, it sounds great (very close to the GB, or 2002) Only thing, is the price tag might is a little inflated imo. The reissue GB, and WL are dam close

I'll tell you: the 505 MEDIUM Hi Hat model is the sweetest sounding B8 alloy hat around. They sound like a perfect pair of original GB hats (a good sounding pair-there were quite a few original GB dud pairs in my opinion). www.guitarcenter.com/Used/Paiste/14in-505-HIHAT-PAIR-Cymbal.gc

You can still find them pretty cheap. The Medium hats above are priced regular market price IMO, but truly are marvelous sounding hats: buttery and warm. 505s are essentially original Giant Beats with the 505 lathing. And 505 lathing is almost identical to the 2002 lathing, but with the secondary lathing that is evenly spaced versus the random pattern of the 2002s. The 505 HEAVY hats-while nice-don't have the magic of the MEDIUM however.. I put a link to an 18" MEDIUM too. I wouldn't go heavier than that. The 505 HEAVY CRASHES were quite heavy!

Giant Beat (reissue) all day long for me. Just simply smoother sounding. The PST Series has a high pitched after ring which gives it a really brassy kind of ding-ey sound. Not a big fan of that ringing.

But I can't decide between the heavy and the medium crash. Basically I want a 18" light ride , so which one would you consider to be closer to that sound ?

Would you recommend the PST7 Ride and hi hats vs the 2002's? I'm honestly having trouble discerning the 2002's from the PST7's...especially with the full band...but I need a ride with a cutting bell and body (maybe PST7 Heavy or 2002 Power?) and I'm just looking for more versatile hats than my 13" Signature Heavy hats

cscamby0410 i don't know if you have decided yet lol but the pst 7 is great series... I have a 16inch medium crash and a 18 inch heavy... they are great.. But for my music I will probably replace the 16 with either a 20inch giant beat or a pst7 light ride... Just make sure ( with any cymbals) that you use good stands.. Or they will sound like crap

@bonzoleum
@bonzoleum 9 жыл бұрын
Richard Mendell I'm not sure if that still holds. Paiste may have thinned them out over the past few years. On the Paiste Wiki people post weights of their cymbals. You can compare them there. I'd say it still probably holds that a modern 2002 20" CRASH is the same weight as a 1974 (for example)20" 2002 MEDIUM.

I remembered I have a couple cymbals I can use as a comparision: I have a 22" 1971 2002 MEDIUM that is 75 grams lighter than a recent (3 year old) 22" 2002 22" CRASH model. The 1971 MEDIUM is 2405 grams, and the late-model 22" 2002 CRASH is 2480 grams.

It's on the thin side. I think 1820 grams is the averageish weight on them. Hoping they eventually offer both a 1910ish and 2000 gramish one. Try the 602 MEDIUM RIDE; it is an outstanding specimen.. The now offer MEDIUM and HEAVY models now as well.

I like the 505 and the Giant, based on this demo, and your style of drumming. Terry--is that a Ludwig piccolo snare? I told you I gave away my drum set five years after I became disabled. What do you think is the most decent snare for around $200? (The Ludwig piccolos are so expensive.) Are the Pearls any good? I'm just using it to get the strength back in my hands by doing rudiments, more that I can (for the most part) hold the stick again in my left hand. It's the best occupational therapy I've had in years for my hand! :)
