This is a Paiste PST7 light series ride and thin crashes and hihat. This is a drum cover of The Rotten Kid from the Buddy Rich big band. Cymbals are 20" light ride, 18" & 19" thin crashes and 14" light hi-hats.
Enjoy - Jim Huwe
I have also done some demos with these cymbals on heavy rock tunes. I will be posting them as i get time to upload. • Video

Thanks, Frank. They record really nice. Maybe a little weak on an actual gig from my experience. The mediums hold up better in a big band setting and rock gigs I have used them on. 😊

Check out other videos I have used these on. I used the 19 thin on a jazz gig last Sat. with a 20" Kerope, a 22" Paiste Traditional jazz ride, 20" Zildjian swish and light 14" Pst7 bottom, Dream Ignition top. Nice compliments to the darker cymbals. Nice color pallet. It works so well.

I was deciding between the Paiste PST7 medium or light set and your video convinced me to go with the light set. I have been a Buddy Rich fan since I was a teen and always loved the sound of his drums and cymbals. And your playing is great! Thank you for the video and for helping me make my decision.

Wonderful playing Sir.I discovered the paiste pst7 a few years back myself.For the price they are probably the most affordable and best sounding cymbals in this price range.While most of the drum manufacturers are offering some great drums that are affordable for the weekend drummer,as far as I'm concerned paiste is the only company that has offered us a good sounding affordable cymbal setup. Check out there pstx Swiss effects cymbals,they sound like a China type cymbal but not harsh.I bought the 14" and 16" thin models, simply love them as well.Happy drumming Sir.

Thank you! I have listened to the these cymbals extensively on line. It was a pretty good way to figure what would work. I can't say I love the smaller chinas. If they had a 20", I would probably like it. I got a 20" Zildjian Swish in 1981. I have never gotten SO many compliments when using that cymbal on gigs. I have a lot of cymbals from 50's K to Sabian to these. Not as complex of a sound as a Zildjian, but they do fit the bill for many things. And you are correct, you can't find a better cymbal for the price. You know Zildjian AMIR back in the early to mid 80's was a really great line of B8 cymbals. Way better than the ZBT/ZHT of today. But these Paiste 7s have them beat.

What do you think about the 2002's for jazz? Thanks
@jimflys2
@jimflys2 4 жыл бұрын
I typically use darker or more complex sounding cymbals like K's or Kerope. I do like a nice contrast though so will use at PST7 for crashing some. The 2002 is in the same sonic spectrum. So same there. The rides are just way too bright for small group jazz. I tired that at a rehearsal. I would use it on a big band gig potentially with the brightness to cut.

Yep, I picked up several Med since this video was done. They seem to work quit well in loud rock, live gigs. The thins record better even for rock stuff.

Would you say these are quieter than typical cymbals?
@jimflys2

I used my lights on a rock gig recently. The 18" did not quite have the power. The 19 was fine. The 20 light ride was a back up, but held it's own. I now have a reg ride too and a reg 18. So yeah, a little quieter.

Thanks! That’s actually what I’m looking for. I need quiet cymbals but with a clean and limited harmonic range and these seem perfect. I may try the 18” and go from there. Thanks!

@jimflys2
@jimflys2 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, but I now also have a Reg ride and an 18 reg crash. I have COUPLE OF DRUM COVERS I have done with those. Check them out. These work a little better for loud live rock gigs. the 19 keeps up fine as a light. The 20" light ride works as a crash and has a nice wash that can work well too in a loud gig.
