I"m really late to the party on this one....I have to first admit, I currently play another brand which I've been loyal to for 20+ years. Lately I've been pondering Paiste. Mr. Paice is extremely honest in this video. He isn't just saying he loves everything because he is an Artist and I love that. As I'm researching, I'm very happy to have come across this video.

fantastic Ian Paice and fantastic Paiste Cymbal! i remember my first ride i bought long long time ago: 20'' ride 2002 , in1984. I knew that Paice used 2002. Fantastic sound till now, never i wanted to change it , incredible 'sound projecting' in my live performance, cymbal that never 'die' and possible to listen to also when microphone and ampli system not the best!!! of course , time to time, my set cymbal got bigger and bigger but : 2002 all. i liked very much also formula 602, mostly hi hat 13'' and wonderful Signature serie, if i remember first time i listened from William Kennedy with Yellow Jackets, very brilliant! i liked very much! . My set still fantastic and........solid!!! thanks Paiste, thanks Ian Paice! that ride 24' sound wonderfully!!!!

I'm in love with the Masters series. I'm using the 22" Dark Crisp ride (and LOVE it) and the 20" Dark crash. PLEASE expand this line, specifically the hi-hats and crashes. I'd like to see different sizes (bigger like 16" hats, 23",24" rides) weights/thicknesses (preferably thinner), more lathings (or lack thereof) / bigger hammering (more rich/complex), different bell sizes, bow lengths, etc. I'm so incredibly inspired by this series. It hasn't been around as long as the Signature, 2002, or Traditional series, so I understand the Masters line is still an infant relative to the others. I've played numerous shows and drummers come up to me asking "What ride/crash is that? It sounds incredible!" You guys turn heads with your cymbals. Keep it up. I look forward to what the future holds!

So funny! Every cymbal he describes as "brutal" is the exact model I love! Hahaha! I really like the 22" Dark Ride, the 20" Crash Ride, and the 14" hi-hats. They're definitely not for everyone though.
@oootinanai8 жыл бұрын
+Paul Marangoni I think he's saying brittle, not brutal. I may be wrong, but it makes more sense.

+oootinanai No he's definitely saying "brutal".

I get the feeling that Ian was supposed to do a polite discussion about each cymbal, and it just turned into "what I don't like about these cymbals" Paiste: "Hey, Ian, my friend. Want to talk about our cymbal line on camera?" Ian: "Sure mate, I'll be there" (while filming...) Paiste: "What do you think of these cymbals?" Ian: "Too brutal!" Paiste: "Oh, how about these" Ian: "Much too harsh"

With Paiste, I am also a 2002 fan, thanks to him and Bonham. That Paiste 2002 24" is really nice! Never owned a set, wanted them for many years in my younger days of rock playing but ended up deciding for Zildjian. These days, already retired from playing actively, I have not played Zildjians for long time and lately for the last couple years been with Sabian, The paragon Line and the HHX Evolution Line, I just recently got a collectors Sabian HH Session ride made after Todd Sucherman, very expensive ride, in fact the most expensive ride I have ever bought, still, I have a hard time putting it over the Paragon.

The sign of a great drummer is not being able to tell he's dropped a stick if you was just listening and not watching... and the hardest part of becoming a drummer imo is finding your own unique sound... you can tell Ian's playing a mile away... only drummers notice certain things... you can't buy experience... and listening is free🙏🥁

Nearest thing to wine-tasting for drummers. Ian has an excellent palette and like the best tasters knows how to express the traits of each cymbal. Take note of how he assesses the character of each by looking, playing and listening rather than label searching. Admittedly, he has decades of expertise to refer to and is my prime choice as an exemplar drummer.
