Thanks Noel , enjoying your videos , especially about Pakistan , i was working there whilst based in dubai from 2015-2019 and commuted weekly between karachi and dubai , always on emirates , for the first years emirates didn’t have their own lounge and buisness class used that lounge where you were invited too , having lived and worked in Pakistan i was well aware of the tipping culture and always ensured i had ‘’small money ‘’ in my pockets , Unfortunately it backfired on me after emirates opened their own lounge upstairs and i went to the bathroom and just as a matter of habit i tipped a Pakistani guy who was standing in the toilet , he was quite offended as he was not a toilet attendant but another business class passenger on my flight , i was a bit embarrassed ……. But karachi airport is always and adventure , normally a funny one .

Thankfully not all people are just out to get tips out of others and I thought that was not a very nice thing to do. 13 years ago, my daughter and I stayed at the wonderful Roosevelt Hotel in Manhattan and the staff were great. When going home we sat in the lounge with a ton of baggage we had bought 2 extra suitcases and had heavy hand luggage and lots of plastic bags waiting for my daughter's dad to pick us up. We figured we could carry our luggage ourselves and not to save money but we thought her dad would come in and help us which he didn't. To our great surprise the men/staff came over and started to pick up everything and one of them said " we don't want tips but want to do this for you because you have been so generous with tips" I felt embarrassed because I thought they didn't think we could afford anymore tips but this was just so sweet of them to do and I never forgot it. Isn't it just great when people do surprisingly nice things for you? I had only given a little more tips than my guide book suggested. The only thing out of the ordinary I did was before leaving our room we had taken the champagne cooler which was on a big silver plate and filled it with candy, cakes and cookies flowing over to the plate and we put all the handfuls of coins we had next to it with dollar bills. We figured working as a maid was hard work and wanted to surprise her. We were the ones to be surprised:) Just a little story of kind people making us smile:)

This is somewhat similar to my Marakech airport experience. Controlled chaos 😂 security screen upon terminal entry, then you HAVE TO go to the check-in desk despite having no check-in bags and you MUST have a paper boarding pass (who does that anymore?) that the check in counter doesn’t even check. Then you queue for an hour to get your paper boarding pass stamped. Then another queue to check that the stamp is indeed present. THEN secure screen again 😂 all with some interesting staff attitudes.

Why didn't the hotel provide a shuttle service to/from the terminal?

You know, UAE is a poor country struggling with billions of dollars of income. You are asking them to build something like a walkway or shuttle service? Have you thought of little prince Ahmed birthdays? Do you want a child's sadness in your conscience?

Tip for you Noel for Dubai, if you just passing through again, Holiday Inn Express is a good choice. They do a bus that stops at both Terminal 1 and 3.

Air tags are great but add an unnecessary stress to travel. My one was saying a case was still at Heathrow when we landed in Orlando, then it came along on the carousel

This is why I don’t have an air tag as I’d have permanent anxiety about my bag! No knowing means I can’t worry about something I can’t see lol

Tipping for using a bathroom at a train or bus station is a common practice across South Asia. They don't have a fixed price. They are happy with a couple of cents. The money is often used for keeping the bathroom clean (they don't). At an airport, am hearing this for the first time.

Hi Noel - thanks for the video. Just to clarify the lounge situation - the reason staff get people to come in is not that they want tips (I have never tipped anyone) but because it is a revenue generator for the Civil Aviation Authority. Even if you are not travelling business class, you can use the facility by paying around Rs 5000 (cash or card). I never use Lounge Key because it cost more that way (£25 = Rs 9000).

Great video noel. I find baggage reclaim weird also in DXB. Always transfered flights even with 40 min connection and bags always make it, but friends who visit dxb have to wait ages! It doesn't make sense.
