On the one hand, I applaud Pakistan developing and harnessing a domestic source of energy to provide much-needed electricity for its economy....on the other hand, it's not just coal, it's lignite. For the sake of the planet, we really shouldn't be burning this stuff, but I suppose there's only so many nuclear power stations Pakistan can build
@murtazazaidi95
@murtazazaidi95 5 жыл бұрын
Pakistan can produce much more electricity from nuclear than we are now because UN regulations wont allow it. Even the two plants we have are both under-utilized. Pakitsan: Sindh and balochistan in particular are very well suited to solar electricty. The deserts and dry hilly areas of Pakitsan are perfect for solar and possibly wind.

Coal is a necessity for developing countries,no matter how dirty! But without diversifying into non fossil fuel renewable energy sources, the world hence pakistan or any other country wont survive. Imagine rivers like Indus drying up that would imply end of the civilisations/nations that depend on them for food production. While building something new, something better, never forget to safeguard what one already has. ( said economically, environmentally and geo-politically) For a prosperous super power south Asia coordination between the two largest nations is essential, otherwise the future of the world is in peril and other nations would benefit heavily from this lack of trust. India would like a prosperous and powerful Pakistan IF it shares the same goals and vision for the region and the world i.e. Democracry, Protection of basic rights of their citizens, respect for sovereignty, non aggression, etc.
@abaxes
@abaxes 7 жыл бұрын
Rampage Buddy Pakistan is diversifying its energy output just last year Pakistan completed its and world biggest solar power plant and work is about to begin on 50 billion-dollar 7 Dam projects in the North of country ... we are well aware of the challenge of climate change but Pakistan is 6th largest nation in the world and that many people need work and good life too
@rampagebuddy1969
@rampagebuddy1969 7 жыл бұрын
Pakistan MUST initiate such projects, for growth of its economy and creating jobs. But I dont think that anyone understands the mess we are in..i.e. there is not enough carbon space for developing countries to embark on the same race of growth of carbon intensive industrialisation. Solutions like solar powers can not power heavy industries nor are they reliable for 24*7 power sources, hence we would always need alternatives. Nuclear power, hydro power, Wind power, etc are also suffering from similar issues. Pakistan fortunately has embarked on diversifying its energy much like other countries including China and India, but all these sectors merely buy time for future solutions and are not solutions in themselves. Thus it is the RnD in Energy industries that should be the prime focus of developed nations with free transfers and cooperation with developing nations. Unfortunately we totally lack in this dimension, there exist only a handful of institutions in the world where collaboration in this sector is done between all countries- apart recent initiatives like creation of International Solar Alliance- NISE by India and France, etc. Without investments into futuristic alternatives we are doomed together- be it Pakistan, China, India or the world. And you know what, guess who would be the least affected? (Policy makers and well off sections); Who would suffer the most? (common people and disadvantaged sections- who are anyway voiceless in these decisions).

Funny thing is that for the people of pakistan, the per unit electricity cost fro this project will be DOUBLE than what it's neighbouring country India is producing by Solar based power plants! Rs8 compared to Rs4 per unit.
@rampagebuddy1969
@rampagebuddy1969 7 жыл бұрын
per unit electricity cost will in general be far lower for solar based power plants be it India or Pakistan. If we compare per unit cost of similar sized Coal fired power plants in both countries the per unit cost would be much similar ( India's would be slightly lower due to already existing basic infrastructure and more competitive private sector ). The comparison THE XENO mentioned is an indicator of advantage of solar power plants in general, which anyway requires much larger investment, output is less reliable, low and creates minuscule amount of jobs in countries who have to anyway import the solar components. Hence a trade off.

Chutiya Bana raha hai yeh.....Thar coal quality is the lowest quality of coal called lignite with a calorific value of less than 3000Kilocal. It will take 1 kg of Thar coal to make 1 unit of electricity while normal coal as imported and used in Sahiwal power plant is used just 0.4 kg per unit of electricity. That means that the amount of smoke produced by Thar coal power plant will be 2.5 times of Sahiwal Power plant for each unit. Latest technology in coal power plant is called Super Critical technology. Thar Coal power plant is not super critical as coal quality is very bad so it is using a very old technology called sub critical which most countries have stopped using.

The CPEC power projects are of total over $35% billion. These are all Chinese loan where money goes directly from a Chinese bank to a Chinese construction company. Thus money goes from 1 Chinese pocket to another will Pakistan is left hold a high cost debt. These projects are without competitive bidding (minimum 25-30% more expensive by world standards) , high interest rate, unimaginable high ROE, tax waiver on all import duties, income tax and withholding tax, use of Chinese labor and Chinese duty free raw material. The only Pakistani labor is the low cost daily wage earners, drivers, peons type. All officer and management positions are with Chinese who will not be paying any income tax for the salary earned.
@VinD-fj9lx
@VinD-fj9lx 6 жыл бұрын
For every 100 rupee of CPEC Coal based power project cost, Pakistan is paying 6% interest on 80 rupees of loan amount (Rs 4.8) and 27.2% ROE on 20 rupee of equity amount (Rs 5.44). The net is 10.24 rupees per year or 10.24% per year. Pakistan has signed on this contract for a 30 year duration. However Pakistani govt tells its public that CPEC loans are very cheap.

@zubain bro, it seems from your comment your only motive is to prove that Pakistan is great. Then at least you should put forward your facts right. 1% from Coal, so are you getting your 99% from Solar or Nuclear energy. What i was talking about was the right thing to do. First come out of this mindset of competing with India and start focussing on doing things Right for your Country and the World (Earth).

Coal may last for 200 years. But will Pakistan last for that long? They have created so many enemies be it Afghanistan, Iran, India and TTP among few.

The open coal mine has the worst impact on the environment. This should be banned in the world.

Curious Mindzz 1.2 billion people are without electricity, I don't think that developing countries have the luxury to choose between different types of energy. more coal and nuclear power plants should be built umti they reach a certain degree of development that they can use other alternative energy.

True. but that's I would like to see. Open pit mines even after finishing their life, lie vacant. You just can't start any activity there.

The only country that will not survive for the next 100 years is India. Whether it is Kashmir, Nagaland, Mezoland or Khalistan, all these countries occupied by India will be free.

Curious Mindzz yes open pit mines are bad for the environment but it's cheaper and more effective to blast through the dirt instead if digging and mines and holes anyway I'm more concerned about th lack of electricity of 1/6th of people. electricity is human rights and can't deny them

Let's just hope that Pakistani government takes a good care of this project and use the money acquired from this project into modern education and not on madrasas and terrorism. All the best Pakistan.

Humans have survived many climate changes before. It is not a new thing. with these agreements they just want to take the money from people of rich countries in the name of helping the poor countries but they want to use the money for themselves. Stupid Trump is right in this case.

Who wants to take money from rich people,? Poor, nerdy and prodigious scientists from Harvard, Stanford and oxford who spent their whole lives studying climate change science and obtained PhD,s in this field. No ever asked for money, they just trying to convince the world by writing articles in magazines and publishing research papers. BTW what would they do with so called money? Go to strip clubs. Get over yourself, dude. forbes.com

Pakistan has a very active nuclear program. Why are they not just building more nuclear power plants? I know there are many brilliant nuclear physacists the are Pakistani. Also there must be some Iranian nuclear workers looking for more job stability too. Nuclear is a good way to go. LFTR's look promising and even traditional water cooled reactors make a lot of cheap power. France has a good waste treatment system... Surely Pakistan, my Canada and the rest of the world can take notes from the french system.
