Pakistan was one of the first countries that recognized the People's Republic of China. Over the years, the relationship has blossomed into an “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership”. Wall Street Journal, are you really that dense or are you just fulfilling your ulterior motives? There is no way that China would allow Pakistan's economy to crumble. A core part of their mission in the Middle East is to ensure its stability, primarily Pakistan due to its EXTREME geopolitical significance to China. China would never do "Debt Trap" diplomacy on Pakistan and have them resort to compromises on their relationship because it is far too important. A key ally to counter India, a border country to Xinjiang, an alternative trade route, and country that has one of the world's largest populations. Seriously WHY should the US twart the Chinese belt and road initiative? Because it is good for the Chinese economy? This is such absurd thinking. This seems like a benefit for everybody IMHO. Pakistan getting major new infrastructure, should be good for their economy and future. Why should one fight an initiative which would radically improve infrastructure in a poor country? The US needs to stop obsessing about its own ego. It is more important that the world develops than that the US gets to call itself number one in the world. For us living in the west, a richer China and Pakistan is a good thing. It means they can buy more of our products and services, and they will be able to offer more products and services to us. Given how much we fret about immigration from the third world, it should be in our best interest that the third world develops and people there see no need to move to the west.
