Thanks for another spectacular episode! If we could have timestamps that divide it into topics of discussion, that would really help.

Uzair thank you so much for inviting Dr Niaz. His scholarship and your ability to intelligently extract interesting correlations and had him explain certain dead wall political economy conundrums within the state of Pakistan’s was simply brilliant. Thanks once again

As always another superb conversation. I agree with both (for the first time I am worried on current Pakistan situation) that Pakistan rulers and administrators have given up and lost confidence & think they do not have capacity and capabilities to resolve problems and waiting for magic intervention.

When we talk about household income particularly lower middle class we must not forget the average size of family. We can't have growth in lower middle class income and wealth without population control.

I don't understand why we Pakistanis blame neoliberalism? I mean just look at our country. We have MSP for wheat in 2021. PSM, PIA, railways, discos. Blame neoliberalism after adopting neoliberalism in true sense. We have ehsas program, education n health is free(quality is a separate issue). Neoclassical economics made west and south east Asian economies rich. Show me single lower income country turned develop or even middle income country with socialist system.

Bashing IMF is what our economists do all the time. Why Bangladesh is not seeking IMF help? But Argentina is regular 'customer' of IMF. IMF is not our enemy. We are our own enemy. Our socialist economists in our elite universities are our enemies. Just rationalise natural gas tarrif and see reaction from awam. These economists made them feel that they are entitled to subsidize gas. This is the problem with our country. Our political elite is not neoliberals. They have socialist/marxists tendencies.

Notice that according to the guest, other people who hold opposing views on the economy are 'indoctrinated'. That's how you know you are dealing with an ideologue. And the idea that the US and Pakistan (!) are in the grips of some classical liberal straitjacket is not only absurd, it is contradicted by the guest's *very own examples* of massive Govt. spending and transfers that regularly happen in both the US and Pakistan. Both of these bloated, indebted, free spending welfare states *obviously* run in a manner that much more closely resembles the progressive ideal the guest advocates than any classical liberal, small government ideal. It is outrageous to suggest otherwise quite frankly.

Beautiful discussion, but with numerous weak arguments, based on false premise, which is a shame. Fair analysis is important, if you are to present an honest interpretation. If you take Bangladesh as a case point, they have not had 40 plus years of Afghan wars, and the war on terror, at the same time they have enjoyed same or higher levels of foreign aid then received by Pakistan. And, not hosted the millions of refugees for 40 plus years and counting. Not to include Afghanistan in any analysis of Pakistani economy is highly unfair. That instability is not just about facing the the direct effects, but it's also about taking the time spent by the ruling classes in dealing with those situations, the time that otherwise would be spent of normal governance. Without fair analysis, it becomes a lie.

Pakistan is going to be divided in 3 parts. It's shocking that pakistanis don't read international geo politics and haven't realised the multiple partition has already been finalised in G7 meet. Poor guys

indians have been saying that for decades and yet here we are! Pakistan will remain forever, If that is what you here in your bumble then i feel bad for you (actually i dont Lol). However, the Sikhs are tired of you and the Khalistan Movement will be successful. the Kashmiris have rejected indian nationalism, Kashmir will be free. Tamil nadu and other secessionist movements should be supported by Pakistan. You people are full of hate and its unfortunate for us that we have a fascist country on our border. Pakistan Zindabad!!
