Yes, you r right. In chhath pooja we worship Chhathi (shashti) maiya & Lord Surya. "Shashti" means (षष्ठी) six in sanskrit. Even the main point is "shashti maiya" is wife lord "Kartikeya/Murugan”.

Clarification: after the second day's kheer puri which is called "kharna" the 36hrs fast is without a drop of water and chhath is primarily a festival of Bihar and adjoining states and it is celebrated accross India and abroad by Bihari diaspora, however, looking at the increasing trend others also have started doing it now.

I am from Bihar first of all I want to thank you for providing so much knowledge about this pious festival... But I want to make one correction that after 2nd day there is complete fast for 48 hours not even water is allowed. And it's called MAHAPARV in Bihar. During these 4 days the atmosphere changes completely. You yourself can feel positivity and the boundary of religion is not seen Muslims come and eat Prasad and also they help the people who return from ghats by providing them water, tea or some snacks. And in some parts of Bihar even Muslim families perform chatth pooja. 😊
