I had someone give me one of these a few months ago. After playing with it for a bit, I inserted some felt into it and it improved quite a bit. I can boil 2 cups of water in about 4-5 minutes with it now. Also, your stand is assembled inside out. The tabs go on the inside and you'll have to curl it into a Heart Shape to get the 2nd tab to insert. The stand works great with my Trangia knock-off. Depending on the wind, sometimes I flip the stand over and get better results.

I assembled the pot stand different on the one I bought, but had the same awful result as you. I felt that the jet holes were far too big, mine never properly bloomed.....threw it in the bin!

I got one off ali. The stand is put together wrong. Stove kind of sucks, but I put a wrap of carbon felt on the inside of the down tube and tied it on with a little wire. That helped it actually bloom properly. Not bad in case of emergency, or to just play with now and then. Stop throwing stoves away! Send them to me or save to experiment with lol

I got the smallest version of it (from Ali), and the windscreen i got was 3 part. it's fine (boil in about 10min) but i also think the jet holes are in wierd location, i don't see how they make any difference 😅 Also, you assembled the wind screen wrong 😁 it should be round when done right, don't worry about bending. and yes, it's easier with three pieces 🙃

I had a similar windscreen. If you fold over most of the upper prongs and fold them back again they snap off. The airflow becomes way better.

Just thinking out of the box. If you clip the dovetails the other way around, so that they interlock on the inside, you might get a full circle, which would increase airflow.

I bought one & came with a titanium pot stand/ windscreen & I didn’t really like the burner but use the stand/ windscreen for other diy alky & solid fuel with great results ( when you assemble it correctly “round with dovetails going in” like everyone here suggest! Sometimes you “are wrong” but I subscribed & watch all of your videos & learn sometimes lol 😢😂

Hi Ernie! It was on the, BikeNCamp, channel. Can you help me out with this? I really need a pros opinion. Thank you so much for sharing. Really enjoying your channel and content. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️❤️❤️

When put inside the Trangia (or any alcohol stove) some wick material, e.g. carbon felt, ceramic wool, even steel wool - this material don't burn; and a mesh of steel above, you are: - The heat of the steel wire improve the the alcohol vaporization a bit improving the bloom (start) time and make the stove more eficiente, fuel last longer. BTW- Trangia already have a wick internally, a tube made off Line cloth around the inner wall. Can see this wick in exploded stove view in Trangia page. - The flame became more blue, what suggest better air fuel mixture. - If used Carbon felt, Ceramic wool, fiberglass wool... this material absorb the alcohol will minimize spread alcohol and fire if the stove tips over. Watch this Chinese video - has English subtitles; from YT channel Lifestyle CC Land, is one of the best about this modification. 【原創藍火設計】為何眾多手作職人追求終極藍火? 好處這麼多!! Trangia藍火風暴值得你瞭解!! Beat me to it - yes I thought that having the larger vents at the top would give more air to the top of the burner. However others have said it’s constructed wrong anyway and needs reassembly so it’s a circle and that works better. So in true Hiram style let’s see tests with it upside down as noted and then fitted correctly (both ways up)

👎👎👎 Until shown otherwise, I'm giving this one a definite thumbs down. Supported by other comments and under correction, I concur that you appear to have got the windscreen assembly wrong .. inside-out! The Burner .. possibly not the best? I have made plenty of my own .. some that look much like that one you demonstrated. Yes, I added Ceramic / Glass Wool or Carbon Cloth to the construction (I have done so with all of my home-grown burners) and they work just fine. You are 100% correct in that Alcohol Burners need sufficient Oxygen to function properly .. although the same would refer to anything that generates a flame. Ernie, you have a healthy subscriber base with many thereof who take your word as gospel. In my opinion, posts as this possibly do a disservice to the supplier .. and in no way enhance your reputation for fair, unbiased assessment. I am more than prepared to stand corrected .. but until then ..

You didn't assemble the stand right. The connected tab should go In the inside of the other plate forming a circle. This will probably give enough oxygen. I have a similar stand but with three plates wich I use with a conventional burner (Trangia) and it is the best stand design I know for an alcohol burner. Works flawlessly ans weighs nothing.

the pot stand is assembled incorrectly ....remove one side and scroll it in the opposite direction so it flexes in a circle rather than lay flat it will get more oxygen ...... just an observation

It might make a better candle holder though. Or cut out the inners and pack it with fire starter materials.

👍 I only have two 'bought' alcohol stoves. My first, a 'Whitebox' and the other, a Trangia from the Trangia 'Mini' Set. The rest are 'home-grown' from throwaway materials. I do not drink sugar'd soft drinks / 'soda' .. from cans or other. However, cans .. there are more than plenty empties available down at my local park on a Monday morning.

Ernie, I have this stove with the stand. Yes, it is a big piece of crap, yes I spilled alcohol with it a few times. However, the stove was a freebie, because I was interested in the stand only. The way you put the stand together is wrong. Put them claps together the other way so that it makes the complete circular ring. It's not a bad stand but it does seem to collapse under its own heat when using a better stove.

We all have to do our part to conserve resources. Maybe it can be melted down and made into something helpful because as a stove-IT is reminiscent of a Pneumohemothorax- commonly referred to as a “Sucking Chest Wound” for the same reason-they both “Suck”!

I think the major problem with this stove is the jet holes are way too big. They look like their 1/16" in diameter holes and should be 1/64" or 1/32" I was impressed at how quickly the fuel in the center was sucked up into the outside ring so they must have put something in the stove to absorb the fuel. the pot holder was obviously an after thought and you would need a rock or something on each side of the stove to allow it to breathe better.... but....with the holes so big the stove will not burn right.... no pressure will be generated no matter how hot it gets.... my penny stove works far better ! this stove may well be made so it can run off gasoline... that would be an interesting test ! but i doubt it.... alcohol is far more volatile than gasoline and even that did not develop any pressure.... the only cure I can come up with for that stove is plug all the holes and re drill new holes with a tiny drill.... not one or 2 sizes smaller but a real tiny drill and then test it... it probably would not heat very good so you'd need to drill the holes out a little bigger.... the thing is, it may not supposed to generate pressure at all... but without it you'll get really poor boil times ! I've seen wick stoves do better on your videos ...so yah that stove is junk ! ..... thanks for the review !

3:24 - You are mounting the windshield "wrong", if assemble in circle will allow more air reach the flame. This stove is somewhat popular - due their low cost; with "alcohol stoves addicts" from Japan, so they made some modifications trying improve. - Put steel wool inside - can use carbon felt. - Put aluminum tape over the holes and make small ones. -Or tape the internal jet holes and make new outside, near the upper part. In some tests the stove literally "explode" when lit.

The windscreen is sold separately as well, for example as 3 pieces. That configuration combined with a puck-style burner works a bit better due to the better airflow though it does require a larger pot.
