Ken, you had a very productive day! I agree that the thrill of finding the artifact isn’t about how perfect it is, rather it’s about the feeling you get to touch something that was last touched by the original CNY’ers thousands of years ago.

That connection to the past is priceless. It is hard to imagine how much time has passed since these artifacts were made and used by those early people.

That was my goal, Just one really nice artifact. I got 2 pretty nice points, so I was pretty happy with those results. You can really see the damage that the heavy farm machinery does to these artifacts, so this is a rescue mission. :)

Really great video, enjoyed going along with you on your hunt. We also have to walk a ton to find one point which is why it is so rewarding when it is not broken.

Enjoyed the hunt. Those two complete points you found are beauties. Even the broken pieces are nice to have.

Those two complete points were the icing on the cake for me. Once I got into those fields and saw what the ground looked like, I was glad to come away with anything whole.

@@Paleoman52 I agree Ken! I really miss hunting the old fields- I reached out to my old friend in Mt. Morris to return to my fields but his son owns them now and when I asked him for permission his lawyer responded- “absolutely not!” Times have changed

I was pretty happy to have found what I did. Those fields haven't been plowed in many years and really turned over. The farmers that use that land have been using no-til practices for quite a while. When I first started looking there in the early 1990's, that land was always turned over and I found lots more artifacts.

Nice finds Ken!! Hopefully you get some more rain to wash a bunch more out. One of the better fields I hunt got plowed a few days ago, but it hasn’t rained enough to look yet. Looks like some rain next week though. Good luck!!

That might be the only hunt I get on those fields. They are seeded down and rolled and I won't walk on those seedlings once they start to emerge from the ground, which shouldn't be long.

Really nice ! I would be doing the happy dance if I found just one of those ! Those fields are pretty big, that's a lot of walking! But worth it I'll bet, hope you find Clovis on your next hunt !
@Paleoman52
@Paleoman52 Жыл бұрын
Those are some pretty good sized fields but I pretty much know where the hot spots are and I focus more on them. I do like to search along the areas outside those spots as I have had some good luck there in the past. A Clovis is the "Holy Grail" of all artifact finds, but I did find the base of a Clovis point a few years ago and my neighbor found an almost complete Clovis on his farm just down the road from me.
@davelink1318

Indeed, Clovis is top dog ! I think I have a top half of one, it's about 2.5 inches long, didn't find it , it was in a frame of 30 points I bought almost 5 years ago when I first started hunting, didn't know what it was for about a year, would be cool to see you find a hole one on video.

A pocket full Ken, that Chert looks hard to work👍🏻
@Paleoman52
@Paleoman52 Жыл бұрын
You are correct. I have been knapping since 1985 and I have worked a lot of that Onondaga chert over the years. It is some tough stone for sure. I have a theory that I like to share. I believe the reason that the Iroquois Indians were so fierce was the fact that they had to use tough Onondaga Chert to make their tools and points which put them in a bad mood, LOL.
