omg yes! books that are unnecessarily long are one of my biggest pet peeves. like, an author can write anything--ANYTHING--they want to make the story longer, yet, for some reason, they're choosing to talk in circles or have the characters repeat the same conversation they've had a dozen times, like, howwwww? it feels like my time is purposefully being disrespected at this point T_T

Since you read TMTTYB, I highly recommend “Rifqa” by Mohammed El-Kurd! It’s also a collection of poems about his experience of dispossession. It’s devastating, but worth the read. ❤️‍🩹

I had bought The Marble Queen right before this video came out and I finally read it so: I agree that the whole story could have been a duology or trilogy. The book very much had a three-part storyline (chapters 1-10, chapters 11-12, chapters 13-15) and even though all the major plot points hit, they could have hit harder if the story AND relationship had been given more time to develop.
