"Between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese there are no differences. We are all part of ONE people, the Arab nation. Look, I have family members with Palestinian, Lebanese, Jordanian and Syrian citizenship. We are ONE people. Just for political reasons we carefully underwrite our Palestinian identity. Because it is of national interest for the Arabs to advocate the existence of Palestinians to balance Zionism. Yes, the existence of a separate Palestinian identity exists only for tactical reasons. The establishment of a Palestinian state is a new tool to continue the fight against Israel and for Arab unity." ~Zuheir Mohsen, head of the Palestinian Liberation Army in Syria, March 1977.

+Che X "We Arabs... look with the deepest sympathy on the Zionist movement. ..we will wish the Jews a most hearty welcome home... I look forward, and my people with me look forward, to a future in which we will help you and you will help us. ...*The Jewish movement is nationalist and not imperialist.* ..And there is room in Syria for us both. Indeed, I think that neither can be a real success without the other" - King of Iraq & Syria, Emir Faisal I "We appeal, in the very midst of the onslaught launched against us now for months, to the Arab inhabitants of the State of Israel to preserve peace and participate in the upbuilding of the State on the basis of full and equal citizenship and due representation in all its provisional and permanent institutions. [The state] will ensure complete equality of social and political rights to all its inhabitants irrespective of religion, race or sex; it will guarantee freedom of religion, conscience, language, education and culture. We extend our hand to all neighbouring states and their peoples in an offer of peace and good neighbourliness, and appeal to them to establish bonds of cooperation and mutual help with the sovereign Jewish people settled in its own land. The State of Israel is prepared to do its share in a common effort for the advancement of the entire Middle East." - Israel's declaration of independence i.e. setting out the character of the country, not so "colonialist" as we consider colonialism today. Also, by definition, Israel was never colonialist as it never occupied another country (emphasis on the word 'country', by dictionary definition of colonialism). Palestine was a Syrian region controlled by the British, and by the Ottomans before them, with the re-naming 'Israel' to 'Syria Palestina' coming from a Roman grudge against rebel Jews millennia ago. Palestinian Arabs never had a capital city, a distinct currency, a distinct language, or even a shared national identity (until the 60s). Jews have consistently, continually always had a presence in Palestine since the Romans till today. Jews had a capital in Palestine ('Zion'/Jerusalem), archaeologically acknowledged distinct currencies through the ages (ma'a, pruta, zuz, shekel), distinct languages (Hebrew, Juhuri, Judeo-Arabic, Talmudic Aramaic etc.), and a shared national identity (e.g. "שנה הבאה בירושלים") for thousands of years...the non-religious secular, pluralist, free, democratic version (modern Zionism) of which is asked to be annihilated, just to make Palestinian nationalists feel better about their movement that began in the 1960s. Not to mention that Arabs are from Arabia, so it must've been colonized at some point for them to even be there. I support a 2-state solution, but your claim of colonialism is a far-fetched one, and unfortunately one that often gets spread in mainstream political thought in the west.

The real answer is because the point never was to create a Palestinian state, it was to destroy Israel so the Arabs have all the land, whether the land is Jordan, Syria, Egypt, or Palestine it didn't really matter, the point was for the Arabs to have the entirety of the land, Jordan not only occupied the West bank, they actually illegally annexed it to their territory and the Palestinians didn't do anything about it

Palestinians SHOULD have had a state between 1948 and 1967 in the territories, but Jordan and Egypt refused. Israel had nothing to do with that. Israel, though, by its very existence, precludes a Palestine from River to Sea. But as there never was a Palestinian state from River to Sea, Israel did not destroy something that existed. Israel did not destroy any land either. The exact same land is there that was there 2 million years ago. I'm sure lots of houses were destroyed. The more of these I watch the more I begin to think that a two state solution will never happen. This rejectionism and anti-antisemitism simply will not produce an independent Palestinian state. You cannot have right of return and simply erase Israel with demography. you cannot fight Israel. You must accept your position and make peace if you ever want a state.

+ForeverRepublic The current king of Jordan says that will never happen. I think both Israeli areas in the west bank and Jordanian areas in the east bank of the river, both need to be put on the table for a Palestinian state big enough to accommodate refugees. But, we can't exactly force this on the only Arab country (other than Egypt) that has full diplomatic relations with us in peace. God we have enough tensions with neighbors as it is. And anyway this is nice to think about but a pie in the sky. Right now, too many Palestinians (not all, but a large chunk of their demographic) are only interested in Haifa, Tel Aviv (as if Tel Aviv existed before the ashkenazis came), "al Quds" etc. If any slightly realistic solution was to be put in place, first the goal should be to educate Palestinians through dialogue, events, international pressure for the PA to change their antisemitic education system etc. I don't expect them to love us before a peace agreement. If they want to see us as enemies, fine, we make peace with enemies. But if the 1974 phased plan will continue to be the central motive then all efforts for 2 states will only result in smoke and mirrors. That said, we do need a 2-state solution for Israel to continue to have a democratic future, otherwise it'll be the end of Zionism, the end of the democratic state for the Jews.

Between 1948 and 1967 most Palestinians seriously entertained the idea that Israel could be wiped out and they could return and establish their own state on the entire territory that is now Israel. osamabinsmokin You may know more about international law than I do, but for now let's say that is not the case. What interests me is that everyone is passionate about the Palestinian refugees' right of return, but hundreds of thousands of Syrians are flooding into Europe and is anyone talking about them returning to Syria? No, they are falling over themselves to make new homes for these people in Europe. The difference? The Palestinians have been used as pawns for so long that no-one any longer thinks about them rationally. Why do you think the UN established an organisation especially for Palestinian refugees? So they could remain refugees for ever, as a weapon.

Egypt also offered to give Gaza a 1,500sq kilometer territory (gaza is 320sqk) and Israel will give Egypt an uninhabited area from southern Israel. We can't really give parts of the Mediterranean from the Israeli side cause less than 10 miles from the Gaza Strip there's Ashkelon which is one of Israel's 10 largest cities, we can only give another strip of land which is around the 5th of the size of the Gaza Strip but will be twice the size of all the empty agricultural areas.

All the Palestinians who were interviewed were completely ignorant of their history. According to the 1947 UN partition plan, Israel got about 2/3 of the land that eventually made up the 1967 border and a Palestinian state was supposed to be established in the West bank (in addition to the 1/3 land area within pre-67 Israel). Jerusalem was supposed to be an independent International zone. Israel accepted the UN plan, the Arabs did not and war broke out. At this time both the Arabs and the Israelis negated the international zone status of Jerusalem and extended the war to Jerusalem. Jordan, as one one the main Arab protagonists, grabbed the entire West Bank and would not allow a Palestinian state to be established; Jordan annexed the territory, East Jerusalem and the entire Old City. Israel did retain Mt Scopus within Jordanian territory. After the Arabs lost the 67 war, Israel immediately offered to return the entire West Bank to Jordan, since it didn't want the nightmare of dealing with the Palestinian residents. Israel would have kept Jerusalem. However, the Jordanians would not even respond to the offer. About half the Arabs living within the pre-67 borders of Israel fled and about half stayed. Israel did not chase them out, only the Arabs nations fighting Israel, promised those who fled, that the territory would be reconquered and they would be able to return. The UN built refugee camps for them and made them totally dependent, thereby ruining them, just like the Americans ruined the Indians with dependency on reservations, and ruined the inner-city negroes with welfare dependency.

That's a foolish thoughts of not accepting the reality that Israel won the 1948 war.. you could have achieved far more diplomatic achievements and return much more palestinians if you would have established a palestinian country after 1948 and sign a real peace with Israel

A long read, sorry. If you disagree with this narrative, please write your own. I shan't engage in argument or debate, as these are the facts as I know them from what I have studied. There is no Palestine or Palestinian people as such. A name that had been used by the ancient Romans to shame the expelled Jews (70 CE). The leaders of the British Mandate used the name as well. They had also had been duplicitous - making grave problems by making impossible promises to both Jews and Arabs. Both Jews and Arabs were referred to as Palestinian during this time. Meanwhile, the population grew in the area - both Jews and Arabs. The land was being rehabilitated into arable land - and an economy was growing. Jews are indigenous to Israel. There has always been a Jewish community in Israel (albeit small) throughout 2,000 years of exile. 1948: A plan to partition Palestine into Independent Arab and Jewish States and the Special International Regime for the City of Jerusalem. The Jewish state was to receive around 56% of the land area of Mandate Palestine, encompassing 82% of the Jewish population, though it would be separated from Jerusalem. The plan was accepted by most of the Jewish population but rejected by much of the Arab populace. It should be noted here, this agreement is NOT forever. The two-state partition plan was not agreed by the Arabs, and it has come to the table several times after. There had been no impetuous to make a nation-state during the Ottoman rule, neither during the British Mandate - only in 1964 had the PLO come about, and their aim was the destruction of Israel. Which has been a theme throughout 1948 was a war perpetrated against the newly declared State of Israel by 4 Arab armies: Egypt.Trans-Jordan, Iraq, and Syria The much-publicized claim was to drive the Israelis to the sea Refugees. All wars create refugees and that is calamitous. The Jewish community mentioned before were invited to be guests of King Abdallah of Jordan (actually Trans Jordan at the time.). They declined and remained with their co-religionists. Europe England and France) made a right mess of things, dividing up land spaces with no consideration who lived where and making up Arab countries... The Arabs who fled, left or were expelled from the land that became Israel became refugees. Report of the Technical Committee on Refugees (Submitted to the United Nations Conciliation Commission for Palestine in Lausanne on 7 September 1949)- (A/1367/Rev.1), in paragraph 15,the estimate of the statistical expert, which the Committee believed to be as accurate as circumstances permitted, indicated that the refugees from Israel- controlled territory amounted to approximately 711,000. This condition was exacerbated by their co-religionists (the entire Arab world) who either refused to harbor and help or if they did, refused them citizenship. Arabs who remained in Israel had been offered Israeli citizenship - and over the years, many have accepted. In the annals of world history, no peoples have remained refugees for over 70 years, and definitely not their progeny in perpetuity. United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) was founded in 1949 as a temporary entity to assist in reintegration, repatriation, or resettlement, with a view to furthering peace.Refugee status now is being applied to the fourth generation. Even those who obtain citizenship in another country, retain refugee status. UNRWA mandate is far beyond the accepted international definitions and criteria for refugees that are the basis for the much more successful model for international refugee relief From the 1948 Arab-Israeli War until the early 1970s, 800,000-1,000,000 Jews left, fled, or were expelled from their homes in Arab countries; 260,000 of them reached Israel between 1948 and 1951, and 600,000 by 1972. In the three years following the 1948 Palestine war, about 700,000 Jews immigrated to Israel, residing mainly along the borders and in former Arab lands. Around 136,000 were some of the 250,000 displaced Jews of World War II. There are no declared 'borders' of 1967 - Jordan illegal appropriated Judea Samaria and East Jerusalem in 1948 and not a peep was heard from the world community. The latter had been Jewish btw - the Jewish community was expelled and their homes and synagogues destroyed. Jews had no access to their holy places for 20 years and Jewish gravestones were used as footpaths and latrine doors.

This 1st guy is ridiculous. Makes no sense. Doesn't answer the question. And the others really don't seem to have a clue as to the realities of history. Why is it the Arabs who left, have not become citizens of anywhere else. My family from Hebron who was butchered in 1929, some stayed-they are Israeli-my grandma refugeed out, and our lands and homes expropriated, she became a US Citizen. So what this is about is a bunch of whining. Jordan is the Arab Palestine. The Brits brought in their pet Hashemites to rule, but with the Arabs failing to uphold Oslo, well-it is over. Palestinians at the time didn't think about another country...because the KGB and their Client PLO had only recently become "Palestinian".

mara cohen first guy makes completely sense, his basis for peace was Israel to return the refugees to their ancestral villages which are all within israel. Lets be honest millions of palestinian refugees are not going to fit in Gaza. and no palestinian refugee is going to settle for Gaza when their ancestors has been buried for centuries in villages located within israel who are today occupied, destroyed or deserted, they want to live in land that even their ancesters died for in the countless invasions, for example the infamous Bonaparte Napolean invasion on the holy land. our hardship did not start with 1917 zionist, we have been slaughtered for centuries by countless empires. Many palestinians could trace ancestors to jews, but since many are samaritans, othordox christians, catholics, druze, sunni etc.. clinging on to Jewish ancestors 500-2000 years ago, does not seem to be of any use especially historically. Thats real difference between a zionist jew from.europe, middle east, north africa and a palestinian. we live present and not a bunch of euro atheist hyprocrits claiming we are jews. Only the palestinian who was still practising judaism had rights to call themselfs jews. thats why terms like 'muslim or christian jews' was not used even though most jews in the holy land converted. we identify ourselfs with tribal.clan families not religion. my tribal clan family is mixture of muslims and few smaritan minorities even though most of us are of samaritan origins( atleast paternally).

Ægsnåmet Vjäturþøðikke To much holes in ur silly theory, Palestinian is the name given to them by Europeans, so ofc they are not all ancient philistines, because palestinians when speaking to each other dont call themselfs arabs/palestinians first, they identify themself from their tribe or clan family name first. Palestine is just the name of their country , arab is their language, just like Saudi is just the name of Saud royal family name but most saudi are not from the al saud family. is just the name of their country. if all palestinians are arabs from jordan then why do many muslims in Nabulus have samritan last name? your going to lie now and claim ancient samaritans are from arabia also? haha nice one pal. and what happened jesus jewish followers who became christians, what happened to those jews who converted to islam? did they all reconvert back to judaiam and fly to morroco, yemen and europe, then come back as ashkanazis, sephardim and mizrahims? lmao also their are nabatean arab Ruins and temple in israel from 2500 years ago, so the idea jews where the only inhabitant is false and can be even disproved by the jewish bible itself lol

The first interview was most informative. The young person said that the God commands palestinians (?) to return to their land. No palestinian leader will sign the peace treaty which will not include this condition. Obviously this condition never will be accepted by Israel.. Very strange that the interviewer did not discussed the fact that this condition could be archived only through the war, very bloody war, and currently palestinians have no chance to win it. That why we hear just about 'resistance', completely untrue statement, as the real goal is not get rid of israeli 'occupation', but reconquer the Israel.

Correction a Palestinian state was established in Gaza in 1948. It was recognised by all Arab countries but not colonial powers (who recognised Israel). In 1959 it joined Egypt and Syria in forming The United Arab Republic. Prior to the British mandate, all the Arab countries in the region were joined up together in one state (Othman), there were hopes that they will emerge as a single state once the colonial powers left. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All-Palestine_Government

The answer is very simple to this : 1. The main Palestinian cities have fallen , Acre , Haifa and Yaffa etc. These cities were like Ramallah today , enjoying good Infrastructure and services. Without these cities , it was impossible to establish a Palestinian state. Same if Israel today occupy Ramallah , Nablus , Jenin and Hebron , it will be impossible to the PA to continue. 2. After 1948 , the whole situation was fucked up. There were more than 700k refugees fled from tens of cities and hundreds of villages. Nearly half of them were in the West Bank and Gaza strip. Jordanian Army was fighting the Zionist Militias on borders of the West Bank , the Egyptian Army was fighting Zionists at borders of Gaza strip. At the end of the war , Palestinians were pretty weak and helpless and couldn't defend themselves. Hundreds Thousands were living in refugee tents , cities like Gaza , Ramallah , Bethlehem etc have experienced big wave of immigration. 3. The Palestinian refugees were living in tents , and their camp have had no Infrastructure at all , in the same time Infrastructure was pretty weak in Ramallah , Bethlehem , Hebron since they have experienced. Gaza was totally fucked up , from 0% refugees , to 60% of its population were refugees. 4. The Palestinian state was not established because of the Jordanian government and the Egyptian government , after 1948 the Palestinians formed what was known as " All-Palestine Government " to rule west bank and gaza this government was fought by the king of Transjordan , who annexed the west bank and formed what is know now by Hashemite kingdom of Jordan , later on the Egyptians in Gaza imposed a military role and didn't allow the Palestinian government to have any executive role ...... 5. When the Palestinians got stronger , they established PLO , and it was known that Palestinian didn't like Jordanian militants in the West Bank , because they were rude to them , but in same time , Palestinians know that Jordan didn't come to steal lands and establish settlements for Jordanians , it came to protect them from Israel , also Jordan gave the Palestinians in Jordan full rights. Unlike Israel , kicked 700k Palestinians from their hometowns , and stole their lands.

Kassidy Millo ywt he was the smartest and most logic, 'agressive' because you dont agree with his truthful point of view. I mean why would a palestinian who lived refugee as a refugee for 70 years and got kicked out of his ancestral village in israel decide to comeback to aettle in gaza or west bank? what connection does he have with west bank or gaza? he wants to go back to the same land his great grand parents were buried and the generations before them, he wants to live in the land that his ancestors died for defending against napoleans invasion etc.. That man was the most logical and gave a counter argument to why israel does not want peace. If israel does not want to resettle the refugees back to their ancestral villages then they do not want peace, its quite simple.

The first guy needs a crash course on the 19th and 20th centuries. All newly formed post colonial countries had displaced people moving between new ethno religious borders. 14.5 million displaced during India's partition over 2 million dead. This was largely because Muslim Punjabis demanded an ethno religious state called Pakistan, created in 1947. The nakhba is a fraction on the scale of what happened to millions who had to leave everything behind. But no one got a UN refugee agency just for them and inherited refugee status either. Victimhood pays as we see when analysing the claims of Arab Falastin and many other aspects of this conflict, too. Other facts; Israel tried to return West Bank to Jordan in 67. They had annexed that land from 1948 -67, yet they refused. West Bank Arabs had Jordanian citizenship until 1988. The Jordanians also revoked the seats of West Bank representatives ( vacant ) in the Jordanian Parliament in 1988! Egypt refused to take back Gaza at Camp David but took back Sinai. The demands for a Palestinian state emerged in the mid/ late 60s. Not once during Jordanian or Egyptian occupation of those lands. Large numbers of these people "Palestinians" came in tens of thousands from neighbouring countries because Jews redeveloped land and improved economy. They also came under British. Earlier Turks brought in people incl from Algeria. Saladin brought in people from other Islamic lands like Persians, Kurds etc. The first guy is proof of the delusion and why there won't be peace with this mentality. They shouldn't get a penny of international aid or investment. It should be tied to peace and renunciation of violence. The gravy train of welfare for Palestinians needs to end.

Personally I think Israel is here to stay. I strongly believe that both people (Israelis and Palestinians) have the right to determine their own future. I understand that the Palestinians were there first, and it does look like the Jews are the invaders but most Jews living in Israel today were born in Israel. Some are 3rd generation Israelis. I think that the land you were born in is your 'Native Land' and the people living in both Palestine and Israel are native to this land. Its like saying that because European Australians are not aboriginies they should have to up and leave Australia? Also when the Jews arrived in Israel they arrived to a desert and created a paradise.

Why do some people forget that arabs and jews are both semites , are one blood. Why do they keep culturally ignoring that critical historical fact, islam is a religion that some arabs chose to embrace while some other remained christian or jewish. Did we forget that jews were most protected by the ummayad state back then and they held critical leading roles in the islamic state in Andalusia. Did we forget that the jews left Andalusia along with the arabs/muslims after the fall of the ummayad state back to north africa ? As far as history is concerned , jews were never persecuted in the arab lands or discriminated against but were in europe. So this whole conflict of arab vs jew which i consider an incorrect statement was only created in the 20th century. Its saddening to see your hatred filled comments from both sides.

What Jordan did wasn't occupying and what Israel is doing is occupying? - This is not coming from an anti semitic point of view? In muslim countries they are still refugees, denied citizenship, property rights, certain types of jobs. In Israel they can work, own a house, a lot of them have citizenship so they enjoy full citizen rights, of course there are a few restrictions but yeah let's only talk about Israel and blame them about all of our troubles...

I find it funny that when it comes done to majority ethnicities replacement is not okay. But when it comes down to minority ethnicities, Arabs can replace Kurdish people and rule them.

Palestine was established in 1948, just not all of it. Two parts of Palestine were established, Israel and Jordan. You can't create a country called "Palestine". That would be like creating one country of many on Earth called "Earth".

john bakker I don't support creating another state in Palestine, but it is pretty stupid that they can't even come up with a better name than "Palestine" itself. Especially given they would be the smallest state in Palestine. Might as well create a country in your back yard and call it Europe. That is how delusional these Islamists are.

In 1948, First Arab - Israeli War, the winner was Israel. The loser was Jordan, Egypt, and Syria. In 1967, Six Day War, between Israel vs Syria, Jordan, and Egypt. The loser was Syria, Jordan, and Egypt. Thus, the losers Syria lost Golan Heights, Jordan lost West Bank, and Egypt lost Gaza Strip. Final answer, because the Palestinians were on the losing side. Now, if it was 1947, then under the UN, and British mandate, a two-state solution was offered to both Israelis and Palestinians. The Israelis accepted (something better than nothing). The Palestinians declined (wanted it all).

Maybe the one guy was right. West Bank should have a vote to choose if they want to go back under Israeli administration like before 1993. For 15 years Israel and international community will train competent bureaucrats based on skill not clan or family connection in order for the Palestinians to have themselves effective institutions like in Israel and Europe and not like Lebanon. Then in 15 years both sides will have trust again and can sit down together and discuss future

Particular in 1948 the idea of the Arabs in the area of Palestinian being outside of an Islamic State which very recently prior to 48 was the Ottoman Empire would be hard for anyone of region two separate themselves from their neighboring Arabs and Muslims especially since Pan Arabism was the next logical evolution of an independent Arab state identity was not how it's being framed in this question That would be in comparison to Nebraska seceding from the United States in today's world and mind set and trying to establish itself as it's own independent country while it's true that most Nebraskan's Love their land. And think of themselves as Cornhuskers but at the end of the day above and beyond that there's still Americans by culture and Creed so being a separate entity outside of America it wouldn't seem like such a great idea or even a relevant one Just as the way your question was layout with no reference to the particular cultural movement thinking or identity

we all know that a 2-state solution MUST happen for israel to have a future as a democracy. things need to be considered when approaching this.. (1) why did king of jordan say "jordan is palestine"? [source: november 1981] (2) why did zuheir mohsen, a top official of the PLO, say that there's no "palestinians" & that "the existence of a palestinian identity exists only for tactical reasons. the establishment of a palestinian state is a new tool to continue the fight against israel"? [source: march 1977]. (3) why is it that if you look at ANY newspaper from the 1950s & earlier, "palestinian" meant native JEWS&arabs of the *region*, not state? ..more to the point, why is it that these things aren't mentioned in ANY mainstream news/media outlet? Why on earth, when Palestinians insist that the American-born great-great-grandson of a Palestinian refugee must return, knowing full-well that the west bank isn't big enough, is Jordan not in the discussion at all?? "The truth is that Jordan is Palestine and Palestine is Jordan" - King Hussein of Jordan, interview with the Arab newspaper 'A Nahar Al Arabi', 26th December 1981. Current king of Jordan Abdullah II (son of Hussein), June 2006, following his meeting with Ehud Olmert: "Jordan will never be an alternative homeland to Palestinians. The Palestinian homeland and their state should be on the ground Palestinian and elsewhere". Israel is the only country in the region WITHOUT segregated camps for Palestinians, WITHOUT forbidding them to have a job because they're Palestinian (like Jews were subjected to in Europe), WITHOUT apartheid. These apartheid camps exist in Arab countries surrounding Israel, while Israel absorbed Palestinians in pre-67 Israel as full equal citizens. It IS, as PLO's Mohsen said, about the destruction of the Jewish people in their homeland, NOT about Palestinian independence. Otherwise, Lebanon, Syria etc, would've dismantled the camps long time ago & gave citizenship rights to the Palestinians there. Jordan would've allowed discussion on concessions from both them and Israel, for a Palestinian state, including areas of the west bank and east bank of the river.

+Ofir Gal What about Tunisia? They're Arab. Maybe a dysfunctional, bickering, but still newly-wed couple? They lack freedom of the press, but they have an otherwise functioning democracy; 2014 election was considered legitimate. And women hold more seats in Tunisian parliament than there are women in U.S. Congress. Also the Arab secularists won the vote, and representing its people there's only 1 major party that is Islamic, all the other major parties are secular. Egypt still has some hope, some. Kuwait has an independent judiciary system and an independent parliament, its on the right track. Although Kuwait also refuses to recognize that Israel exists, but that's another matter.

For 20 years Bibby has been beating the war drum for the demolition of Iran. They pose an existential threat to Israel, right? He "strategically" asserts this sentiment ceaselessly. It's disgusting that the madman has such clout "America is a thing that you can move very easily." Zionism is inherently racist.
