Hugh Laurie's two accents is like two very different people
@youejtube76923 жыл бұрын
That's right, one is Hugh Laurie and the other is a character that he plays called Gregory House.
@youejtube76923 жыл бұрын
Sorry to be so snarky. Actually I think anyone doing a generic British and generic American accent will seem like a different character. Imagine anyone American speaking with a posh British accent and then imagine anyone British speaking with a casual American accent.
@theafflictionvhs173 жыл бұрын
@@youejtube7692 It’s not the accent, it’s more his voice tone & pitch. It gives off the assumption that you are listening to two different Men.

As an Aussie looking from my perspective, I think Hugh really nails the American accent, and adore his very British accent when he is being himself. What impressed me re his American accent and how good it is, was a conversation between House and Chase and House makes some smart alec comment about the "Ossie" rhyming with "possie". I thought yes!!! That is exactly how Americans pronounce "Aussie". The Brits (ie Hugh) pronounce it more like "Awesie" or "Awwestrayylian", much more posh sounding. So more of an Awe sound at the start for Brits, Oss sounds for Americans. And Australians would pronounce more like "Straylian" or Ozzie ('Z' sound not 'S' like Americans). Hugh and Jesse both incredible actors and both gorgeous. Hugh gets better and better with age too, really beautiful smile and those stunning blue eyes. Adorable😊💖

On that note, good thing for me is that I've been watching (& a huge fan, ntm) Hugh's tremendous performances since late '80s in "Blackadder", "A Bit of Fry & Laurie", "Jeeves & Wooster" & sorts, I was rather baffled by his American accent. But, I wasn't shocked that he nailed it such perfectly, 'cause, well he's just a damn fine superbly talented actor.

As a Britisher I am very aware that Hugh has an English accent having enjoyed his comedy work since the early 80s. This has made me all the more impressed at how he carried House with a completely convincing American accent. He is one of the world's greatest actors and that has completely taken me by surprise!

it just a class thing. He's from Melbourne and was upper class (his family are all doctors, if I remember correctly) so he's hardly going to talk like a bogan. In NZ and Australia there was a sort of RP English crossed with AUS/NZ accent that anyone trained in the dramatic arts or radio/tv spoke, similar to the idea of a transatlantic accent, and in certain quarters it only began to dissipate as late as the early 2000's. I'm a New Zealander but because of how I was raised and my class other kiwis sometimes think I'm English, but no one from England would ever say the same. It's a bit hard to explain as these accents are still evolving, how people spoke in the 80's and the 2020's even is wildly different (in my experience, that is)

For most American folks it's in reverse. Over here in Europe it's been hard to get used to HL with an American accent playing a straight role after F&L, Jeeves and Wooster and the magnificent Blackadder. Took me more than 2 years to get over that. Now I'm hooked on the show although I hope he'll return to Britain and comedy and Fry eventually.

So I'm not house, BUT, my favorite class(in regular highschool) was drama. And eventually I went to an performing arts highschool, and I went for acting. Didn't go anywhere, but I am "that girl". Loud, funny, and there's obviously an much larger than life reality painted over what the "average" person might call "normal" life. I have a few accents that over the years, I've practiced(sometimes not breaking character for months! Yes, just inside my regular life! 😂) a lot. And dude, I've noticed, these accents aren't just accents, they are an entire likeness. An entire personality emerges from my mouth and I'm absolutely blown away by it! My "English" accent, unlike myself, has an EXTREMELY good vocabulary(among other things, but I'm just going to name one for time lol). She thinks, right there, on the spot, the most beautifully crafted sentences, with words that I either wasn't aware I had in my arsenal, or, hadn't yet explored to be able to place it with the correct context. These are things I strive for in my own personality. I seriously struggle, a lot, with "on the top of my tongue" moment. Really having to fight for those perfect describing words. And then the "southern bell" gal, man, is she a fire cracker! When I was still very young, I had a boyfriend I adored so much. He was older, but more than that, he just seemed light-years away from anyone else I had ever met in terms of how he thought. And even better, how he dealt with people. Even extremely difficult ones. He was incredibly humble, but also, even when wronged, he would sit in his lazy boy for days just thinking about the situation. How to go about it in an way that was good, mostly for the other. He had my heart, but I think moreso, I was absolutely fascinated by him. I've always been a sort of "peace preacher", but even I, if maybe you hurt not me, but someone I cared for, could at least let you know that you suck ass! And I'm so proud to tell you so. Not him, he actually, tried so hard, to always HIDE this from people. Not wanting to reveal that they were flawed to themselves. Which in turn, always naturally allowed for them to show themselves. And of course, having an epiphany about your own behavior due to solely your own actions, is when there is most likely the possibility of real change. You tell someone they're ass, they dig in their heels. Defending the person they are. Protecting the attack from you onto their conscience. Ugh, he is thee most amazing man I have ever met in my life. We together ten years ago, and still to this day, I strive to behave like him every day. Now, he LOVED sassy women. And me being young, and wanting to be all that my "teacher" desired, attempted to be sassy. I failed miserably of course, because, that's not me! Lol, I'm just not that sassy, quick witted, sexy girl that all men seemingly desire. But SHE is. This southern women, is able to kick out thee most loving caring, funny, and tinted with a little attitude at absolute lightning speed! If only I'd had her back then! Anyways, my point is, acting, is like a key. That unlocks parts of your brain that YOUR personality, hasn't integrated with. And opens the door to entirely new people, whom, wtf, are inside of me?!! It's crazy and just SO interesting, and honestly, frightening, the way the human mind works. I love it all ❤

@hetraceashainkek I don't understand your answer. What I was trying to say is that there is no such thing as a British or English accent, there are many different accents, even two towns minutes apart from each other may contain people with vastly different regional accents. Another example could be that one town or city could have English or British people with many different accents, A South London accent is Different from an East London accent, a posh one is different from a working class one
