gargoyle was a favorite of my childhood. when i would stay with grandmother for the summer, tbs would have this movie on heavy rotation. it would come on after perry mason around lunch time. love the podcast.

Big thank you to Jason and yourself; that sure ignited a few memories... I too also remember Salem's lot when it aired here in the UK on BBC1 (they actually aired good stuff on it back in the late Seventies / early Eighties!). That miniseries was the talking point over here too when I was at school... certainly remember the kid floating outside the window as a vampire was creepy, but his abduction in the woods beforehand made me jump out of my skin, as this "black shadow" suddenly shoots up over him from the bottom of the screen with dramatic music! The other two 70s TV movies I most remember seeing are The Devil's Rain (1975) and The Horror at 37000 feet (1973), both with William Shatner. Very cheesy, but immensely enjoyable when I was young.
@BrickMantooth4 жыл бұрын
The Devil's Rain wasn't a TV movie, believe it or not, it sure looks like one though doesn't it?
@richardwatts46604 жыл бұрын
@@BrickMantooth Lol sure does - my main memory there is trying to manually tune in my old B/W portable TV set aerial, to another commercial region channel here in the UK one Friday night, just so I could see it. Fabulous episode, thanks again.

I'd like to add Curse of the Black Widow TV movie. I watched the trailer in the UK but had no means to stay up late to see it. My mum did, and related the story to me ...scared me silly in a good way. It's on KZbin split up across X number of episodes. I very much enjoyed it a few years ago and realised how much I adored unassuming and bespectacled Patty Duke. Dan Curtis of course produced terrific one-and-done TV adaptations of Turn of the Screw and Jekyll and Hyde.

I nearly spit out my drink when Jason mentioned those damn doors on the Jeep in "Salem's Lot". We got a huge laugh out of that whole thing, especially when the scene happens where David Soul is aggravatedly trying to slam the door shut to no avail LOL. "Salem's Lot" is one of those movies that I adore and always found very creepy and intense, but at the same time there's all these bits of dialogue and scenes that for some reason I've always had running gags with friends about or turned into comedic catchphrases.

OMG!! I TOTALLY remember "Isn't it Shocking" --in that I have only a vague memory of Alan Alda and some defibrillator paddles being a bad guy. Must have seen it very young because it scared the crap out of me in a bizarre, disturbing way because "but that's the guy from MASH!"

“Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” is one of the only movies to ever scare me. Of course I was 5 when I saw it.
@reesepacker79834 жыл бұрын
yep ...saw it for the first time summer of 76 i think during a afternoon airing on the local tv channel ...i was six and half and remember being scared but fascinated by the creatures faces and voices ..it was kind of fuzzy though memory wise until i finally saw again on VHS in the mid 80s ..not as scary by then ..but still fun and creepy for its time

Good episode ..been waiting for this one..i was in the PERFECT age bracket for these films ( 7 to 10 yrs old between 77 and 80) Dont' Be Afraid Of The Dark and Trilogy Of Terror are definitely at the top of my childhood fright list memories ...the days of the weekday afternoon matinees that aired bewtween 2pm and 3pm (followed by the soap operas) how any of us as kids got "caught ' unspecting by what we were about to see. Typically , as i recall it was during summer break from school or days off during the school yr that most of us caught these (probably rainy days or a sick days ) i remember some others you guys did not mention (but no doubt saw at some point ) The Car (post Duel/ pre Christine) The Stranger Within(alien baby) , Burnt Offerings haunted house (once again Karen Black ) there were also all those "eco terror" movies like The Bees , Kingdom Of The Spiders ,Ant's (Lake wood Manor) Phase IV (ants) Zoltan Hound Of Hell (vampire dog) and Devil Dog (a dog possessed by evil spirit ) , ...fondly remember this era also remember catching just odd /strange anitmated movies like Yellow Submarine , fantasic Planet (which was creepy in its own way) and Pinocchio In Outer Space ...not to mention when watching these movies we would often see trailers during commercials breaks of upcoming horror movies...like The Amityvile Horror , Beyond The Door , or The Brood ..for me THE scariest movie tv trailer was hands down "Its Alive ' which i happened to walk in on while tv was on in the living room (in the evening) and nobody was there (Mom was upstairs cleaning or something ) ..scared the CRAP out of me ...ran upstairs and just sat quietly on my bed ..mom didn't even seem to notice ....lol 70's kids we just had to roll with the trauma lol

You're right. I had the same emotion for the Lon Chaney Jr. getting clubbed by his Dad. The next film we're doing (10, 8 & 5) is Son of Frankenstein. We're going in order. I had the Greatest American Hero 45 record too. Btw, "Salem's Lot" was the scariest made for TV movie, imo.

I’m just starting this so I’m not sure if it’ll get mentioned but I’m seeing comments on the usual suspects so I’ll throw in Crawlspace 1973 with arthur Kennedy I think his name is ( the dad from Shane), it’s similar to bad ronald. And death car on the freeway , not sure what year, late 70’s, it’s like a twisted episode of C.H.I.P.s,lol. The ABC Sunday night movies had lots of classics. Linda Blair was in a few good ones, usually as a runaway in a group home or the Sarah T alcoholic one lol.
