The pieces might have cracked from drying too fast. If you keep them under plastic to dry, they will crack less. It will also be easier to trim. Love seeing you in your pottery studio! 💕

To stick your piece to the wheel, try dunking the part that touches the wheel in water briefly and then nudge it center until it sticks and then add your lugs. It's also really hard to trim things when they're balancing on the smaller end like a vase, so a chuck or your giffon grip will help!

I've never been able to trim with the added clay on the sides method.. it always goes flying for me LOL what I've found works for me is adding some water to the rim and pressing it down on the wheel head so it forms kind of a suction? it's def not fool proof and it also goes flying sometimes,, but I've found it works better for me!

love ur studio vlogs sm! just a tip, u may already be aware of this but those pieces you were trimming were way too dry which can make it so much more difficult. Also the way I secure my pieces to the wheel for trimming is I sort of roll out thick coil and place them entirely around the piece, and I press my thumb around the base to secure it in place if that makes sense. Sometimes when the pieces are too dry too it won't stick to the clay coil at all and it'll fly off the wheel like it was doing to you lol

thank u that makes sense!! i’ve never used this specific clay im working with and i definitely let those pieces get too dry :’) im trying to feel out how fast stuff dries in the garage too, right now it feels like the pieces become bone dry in a day if i don’t cover them!!

@@palomathepeach Aaa yes that makes sense! I work in my university's studio and I always leave stuff wrapped up because the same thing happens to me! Stuff will dry so quickly sometimes , I pretty much always end up just having to put my wet pieces out in the sun the day I need to trim them lol

So happy to see another video! Love to see you doing so many fun craft things! If you ever get another kind of clay you should try raku! That’s the kind we have in class and it’s really nice. It can be hard to throwing if it’s pretty dry but right out the bag is such a nice consistency. It’s a bit better than white stone wear because it doesn’t crack as easily! ❤️❤️

How come you don't clip your mic to your shirt/apron? It'll free up both your hands. (I mean when you're talking directly to the camera)

You're having trouble trimming because you let your piece dry out way too much. Watch some videos on how to trim; you'll see that the trimmings should come off in ribbons when your clay has the right moisture content. In contrast, your trimmings were coming off as dust flakes, because of the lack of moisture. Trimming a pot that's too dry also means that you have to press much harder on the pot with your trimming tools, which will cause it too fly off the wheel. You are likely going to have the same issue with the trimming head that you purchased...Normally, if you are trimming a tall piece, and you are using a Giffin Grip (similar to what you're using), you'd use the stilts that come with it to give extra support higher up (closer to the foot). Trim your clay when it's leather hard and you won't have these problems.

Your pieces seem too dry for trimming. Also I always keep a light hand on the bottom of the piece to keep it from flying off, but for the record, I dont know a single person who likes trimming its the wooooorst. So jealous of your studio space
